The God Particle

So there was some speculation that a subatomic particle called the Higgs boson, the so-called "God particle" (a theoretical construct by the way), felt to be the building block of all matter in the universe, was finally isolated by the atom smasher in Switzerland recently.



In any event, maybe not. But one still wonders, if indeed the particle had been found, where did it come from ?

Interesting that scientists use the word 'God' for things they can't explain.

I think in this sense the physicists use 'God' to mean something that is mysterious until we can solve it. With the God particle concept, physicists are helping figure out how particles acquire mass.

No we also use Cinderalla....

The concept that if the basic universal constants were even slightly different by as little as one % then the universe could not exist....

Higgs bossom particles gain common currency since I study particle physics.. but the idea that an electron is a wave not a particle ties in well with the concept.... for instance when us study the difference in mass of a nuetron and a proton there is a slight difference to the 9 decimal place....
