Two other cases that have sounded alarms recently up here in Canada.

2) Toronto's mayor is being raked over the coals because he has announced that he will not attend this summers &quot;pride parade&quot; and will instead be at his cottage (vacation home) with his family during that time.

Seriously, some people need to thicken their skin a little. </span> </div></div>Those two cases are nothing like the pilot though. He was well out of order.

i agree he was very out of order..but i still don't think is enough to take away his living

So really, companies just talk the talk - dont it? I think so. They all say, things like 'we don't tolerate this' and 'we don't tolerate that'. But at the end of the day, they do. SW should consider this dude to be an embarassment to the company. Maybe they shouldn't fire him - maybe they should. Either way, it can't be said that people are being overly sensitive to what he was saying. IMHO ...

As Rich said it is a corporate culture thing. Southwest has a reputation for an easy going, fun workplace, where each employee is free to make decisions that would require a management approval at other airlines in order to provide good customer service. This results in the crew wearing PJs for their -200 retirement, making you-tube worthy PAs, taxing at a high rate of speed to meet the schedule, and other stunts.

Unfortunately the downside of this corporate culture is the carte blanche for unprofessional behaviour. Where as other companies will regulate their staff into professionalism, at Southwest one has to self-monitor.

I can't imagine a conversation like this going on in the flight deck of my current airline, but it was the norm at the previous one.

Sensitivity training for the guy is a joke. The company has to show action to the public. But it's just a slap on the wrist for the guy, and I'm sure there are many other's like him that will first check the radio switches before going on with their conversations in cruise.

When you are transmitting on one frequnecy, when someone else tried to transmit there is a squeal and you can't hear them.

However, they should be listening to another, emergency frequency at all times, and the controller should have alerted them on that frequency that they are blocking the primary one.
