Although forensic tests found unambiguous evidence of a sexual encounter between Mr. Strauss-Kahn, a French politician, and the woman, prosecutors do not believe much of what the accuser has told them about the circumstances or about herself. Since her initial allegation on May 14, the accuser has repeatedly lied, one of the law enforcement officials said. Among the discoveries, one of the officials said, are issues involving the asylum application of the 32-year-old housekeeper, who is Guinean, and possible links to criminal activities, including drug dealing and money laundering. <span style="font-weight: bold">According to the two law enforcement officials, the woman had a phone conversation with an incarcerated man within a day of her encounter with Mr. Strauss Kahn in which she discussed the possible benefits of pursuing the charges against him. The conversation was recorded.</span> That man, the investigators learned, had been arrested on charges of possessing 400 pounds of marijuana. He was among a number of individuals who made multiple cash deposits, totaling around $100,000, into the woman’s bank account over the last two years.

This is about the accuser's <span style="font-style: italic">credibility</span> and has nothing to do with whether the sexual assault encounter actually occurred or not. Even though dna evidence shows sexual encounter but even with dna the prosecution may not be able to go through with the case due to the credibility of the maid and has nothing to do with whether the sexual encounter happened or not.

Strauss is a rich and powerful man and he has powerful lawyers on his side.

If you read the story you will see that the 'dirt' uncovered so far is coming from the prosecution. If this goes to trial wait until the defense gets a chance to present the 'dirt' that it uncovered.

And the thing I found 'odd' about this from the get go was if an assault happened why would he calling the hotel to inquire about his cell phone? You would think he would just want to get the heck away from there as soon as possible.

i've read it and heard it on the news Smooth..

My point is just because her boyfriend is in jail and perhaps spoke to her about a settlement, does not provide she has lied about being raped. You started out your post by alluding to people rushing to judgment about the accusation against Strauss. I haven't seen any report about &quot;holes&quot; in her description of the crime.

However, her lack of credibility would be enough to blow the whole case apart. As I said, Strauss is a rich and very powerful man with a very strong legal team...

This would be a good story line for Law &amp; Order SVU lol!

he would do that if he believed his behaviour did not constitute sexual assault. or if he believed that no one would take the word of a black maid.

In fact knowing what I know, any major incident that tek place again in my life I am milking it for every penny and/or opportunity!

In situations like this it's always helpful to speak from a personal knowledge of the events. I have never been raped by the head of the IMF, have you ?

No - no apology from me. I only said, jokingly at the time, that at $3000 a night I would probably think the maid was part of the 'room service' too. But my real point is the way the media portray the story initially - as being about this powerful man who prey on and have his way with women and who took advantage of this poor, pristine, devoutly religious West African immigrant who came to the US with only the shirt on her back in search of an honest days wage and a better life. My point is whatever the story there is dishonesty all the way around here. And in a he said/she said case where only two people know what went down all you have is credibility to work with so it is relevant in this case.
