Grover Norquist, <span style="font-weight: bold">a &quot;no tax increase&quot; zealot</span> was able to get future tea party members to sign <span style="font-weight: bold">a pledge</span> of &quot;No New Taxes&quot; before they were elected.. I can only surmise that the anti - Obama forces, of which the tea party way ahead of the pack, was sowing their seeds of discord..

Because of the pledges they signed and handed over to this non-elected &quot;boss&quot;/leader of theirs, they are not able to think, weigh the odds and vote according to their own individual or independent wishes if they want to.. That has become almost a religious ritual for them to resist any compromise whatever. I can't believe that this is what the average voters who sent them there expected.. I dont accept this <span style="font-weight: bold">pledge thing</span>; it's being less than Democratic&quot;.. What are your views?

You must not make the mistake of thinking that the people we elect go to congress to serve the needs of the people.
They serve the needs and interests of the wealthy and the corporations who bribe them with the campaign contributions necessary to get them into office and to get them reelected over and over again.

One hand washes the other.
Congresspeople can't get elected without that money and the corporations and the wealthy would not get the tax breaks they get, the power to pollute the air and water, pay workers less than a living wage, all the things that we the electorate would never be in favor of if all the politicians were not bribed in that manner.

The wealthy also control the media and thereby the brains of the Tea Party people and the disinformed public in general.

Whatever democracy we might have had when the country was born is long gone.

What we have now is undeniably an oligarchy.

All the political promises, campaigning, conventions are window dressing.

Cleaning and Revitalizing is something we need to do with the government.
That will take more than a spritz of Pledge.
It's more like the Augean stables sort of cleaning that is required given all the BS found there..

Wendy, you are so right by calling him &quot;One of the most powerful man in US politics. I would go a little further by elevating him as [b]the most powerful man in US politics at this moment in the history of the Republic.. Can you imagine that he controls the majority of about 42 freshmen associated with the Tea Party? ; All of those guys signed pledges to vote as a block on raising TAXES to de-rail Obama..

Grover Norquist have those pledges locked away in some vault or whatever. If any of them goes against the pledge, Norquist has vowed to campaign against them in future elections.. That is undue pressure from one who is not elected and should not be allowed to dictate what goes on in Congress. Let's hope that there will be a law against this practice to preserve what little Democracy there is...

FYI, the government of the United States is controlled by big money. The large corporations and the wealthy through the legal bribery that is called &quot;campaign contributions&quot; OWN the people whom we elect .

The Supreme Court last year ruled that the corporations could spend as much money as they'd like to buy elections.

There is NO democracy.

We have an oligarchy, the dictionary definition and the reality is rule by the rich and powerful.


This is not the first time I have posted these basic facts.

Do you deny them? Have you never heard this before ?

I'm not a tea party supporter, they lost all credibility with me when they adopted Palin as their official mascot, but that said, it's refreshing to see someone in washington actually do what they promised.

THAT'S EXACTLY WHY THE VOTERS PUT THEM IN OFFICE THIS IS WHAT THEY EXPECT THEM TO DO.

Does it confuse you because these people in Washington are honorable? I can understand your confusion, Washington is not an honorable place.

You may not agree with what they are doing, but you must respect their obligation to the voters that put them in office.

Has Obama kept his campaign promises? Has he accomplished anything that he promised?

I hope that the government shuts down. Let's get this over with. I'ts going to happen eventually unless they cut massive spending. It will be tough, but it must happen.
