So what is wrong with speaking English? English is an international language and speaking it well can take you places. People in touristy Mobay who I had to deal with on my last trip couple months ago spoke Jamaican accented english without the yankey twang. And it is definitely not true that nobody in Jamaica speak patois anymore. A wich part a Jamaica you go when you go yaad - I hear nuff patois even pon de radio. And it is prominent in the music.
But for me, the most beautiful thing is to hear English spoken well with a Jamaican lilt. If you have any business to do and you walk into any of the big banks down a yaad and talk to the tellers - they have it down. And it shows that you can speak English well without an American or British twang.
