Re: harlem million man march saturday
The Millions March in Harlem buzz is in the streets around the country. Posters and flyers are everywhere and people are excitedly talking about the need for unified action and change. The Millions March in Harlem will be held on Saturday, August 13, assembling on Malcolm X Blvd at 110th Street at 10 AM. It will focus on the attack on African people on the Continent and in the United States.
The heinous bombing of Libya by the US and NATO, illegal sanctions against Zimbabwe by the West, and the Bloomberg administration’s destruction of housing, jobs, education, health care and police abuse, are all a systematic assault on African communities.
Special guest speakers include: Minister Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam; Father Miguel d'Escoto, former President of the UN General Assembly and former Foreign Minister of Nicaragua; Dr. Molefi Asante of Afrocentricity International; Viola Plummer of the December 12th Movement; NOI Minister Akbar Muhammad, and many others.
In a press conference at the United Nations Plaza Hotel on June 15, Minister Farrakhan stated, “NATO and America are trying to recolonize Africa through AFRICOM (African Command). My question to African leaders is, will you allow it? Out of fear of the so-called power of the West. Will you bow down and act against the interest of African people world wide?” Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has been a principal advocate and organizer for a United States of Africa which threatens the international power structure.
The organizers of the Millions March in Harlem held a press conference on June 22nd and Minister Akbar Muhammad reported, “Minister Farrakhan will definitely be speaking at the march on August 13. The Nation of Islam is fully behind this march, it is extremely important, and we will do all that we can to make this happen.”
Viola Plummer of the December 12th Movement International Secretariat stated, “There comes a time when people have no alternative but resistance. This march will revitalize the Pan African movement. It will broaden our peoples' world view and demonstrate the need for Africans to unite in our own political and economic interests internationally. We must expose the United Nations Security Council machinations, western imperialism, the attack on Black people in the US, and all collaborators at every turn.”
The march has garnered international attention with the participation of Father Miguel d'Escoto Brockman, who flew in from Nicaragua and attended the Harlem press conference. Father d'Escoto spoke against the “war of aggression on Libya.” Further stating “There is no people in the whole planet who know less about what the United States does abroad than Americans. They are systematically deceived. This is the very foundation of what they call democracy in this country.” Father d'Escoto went on to outline the need for reform in the United Nations, emphasizing the domination of the voting members of the UN Security Council over all other countries.
On the ground, “Millions March In Harlem” organizing teams, which are saturating the streets with bright green posters, report on the grassroots response. “We never underestimate our people's ability to analyze a situation. The vast majority of folk are clear about the attack on African people and want to do something to fight back. Mainstream media propaganda about strong African leaders like Colonel Muammar Gaddafi and President Robert Mugabe is just like what they say about Black people here who do not bow down to the status quo,” said Gregory Perry of Queens.
Bronx Coordinator Kamau Brown stated, “Colonel Gaddafi and the people of Libya have built their country from the poorest to the richest country in Africa. He is the key person in the organizing effort to build a United States of Africa. President Mugabe has dared to take back the land stolen by European settlers and give it back to the people of Zimbabwe.”
“The attack on us here is insidious. Police brutality and harassment, gentrification of our communities, housing foreclosures, destruction of public education, closing hospitals, the prison industry, the list goes on and on. They all destroy lives. The NATO bombs in Libya and the illegal sanctions in Zimbabwe kill people. Black people understand that it's time for Pan African Unity.” Brown concluded.

Re: harlem million man march saturday
Activists representing a broad coalition of anti-war organizations, the Nation of Islam, the political left, Islamic organizations and a plethora of grassroots community organizations recently stood together on the stage of the Assembly Hall at the Riverside Church, proclaiming that “all roads lead to Harlem” for the Aug. 13 “Millions in Harlem March” to stop the bombing of Libya.
“Where are we going to be on Aug. 13?” asked Sara Flounders, co-director of the International Action Center, the main sponsors of the Riverside Church event. “In Harlem!” the standing room only crowd shouted back.
“President Barack Obama never believed that his actions against Libya could galvanize the movement that will be in the streets of Harlem on Aug. 13”, said Abdul Akbar Muhammad, the international representative of the Nation of Islam, in response to a question from The Final Call. Marching alongside of the Nation of Islam the second Saturday in August will be members of the “White Left and other progressives, Pan Africanists, Black grassroots organizations and national Islamic organizations,” he added.
The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan will be the keynote speaker at the Harlem march. “Min. Farrakhan will deliver a dynamic speech from 110th Street to 125th Street,” said Mr. Muhammad. The march will start at 110th Street.
The United Nations Security Council March 17 passed resolution 1973 by a vote of 10 in favor with five abstentions, authorizing the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to begin a “no-fly zone” over Libyan air space, alleging President Muammar Gadhafi was targeting civilians in the North African nation.
Some Libyans had begun anti-Gadhafi demonstrations in February in the city of Benghazi, which turned into armed rebellion. The UN offered no proof Libya's leader was killing unarmed civilians, though he vowed to fight those who had taken up arms against the government.
The U.S. and France March 18 started bombing so-called military targets, but the damage done by a “peace effort,” according to some observers, was more costly than what the Libyan leader had been accused of. Then came attacks on personal compounds that killed Libyan officials as well as a son of Col. Gadhafi and his grandchildren. NATO bombs hit the home of Libya's leader at least twice as Western nations declared he had to go, pushing a policy of regime change.
Cynthia McKinney, a six-term former congresswoman from Georgia, was the keynote speaker for the Riverside Church rally. She told The Final Call she agreed with Mr. Muhammad's assessment. “This will galvanize public opinion, as people see this as being important to them. Obama certainly stumbled this time,” referring to the president's continued support for the NATO bombing of Libya. According to news outlets, the Obama administration is sending $10 million a day to NATO for the bombing of Libya.
Ms. McKinney had been on an 11-city tour telling packed audiences about her experiences in Tripoli in the early days of the NATO/UN aggression.
“There is definitely a buzz in the streets around Aug. 13,” said Larry Holmes of the Newark-based Bail Out the People Not the Banks movement. “Expect people to be in the streets of Harlem in numbers,” he said.
Information about the street mobilization for the march may be found at http://www.millionsmarchharlem.com. There are organizing teams in all five New York boroughs that have saturated neighborhoods with green posters announcing the march.
“The people are very excited about the march, and Min. Louis Farrakhan as the keynote speaker is great. We are going to fill up Malcolm X Boulevard,” said one volunteer.
During a June 15 press conference at a hotel across the street from the United Nations, Min. Farrakhan told the media the “United Nations, U.S.-sponsored, NATO-led bombing of the North African country of Libya” was the work of “a coalition of demons,” governments who have joined together to assassinate Col. Gadhafi.
But even some who voted for the initial resolutions and allowed the resolutions to pass have expressed reservation, if not outright regret. The African Union, in particular, has been calling for and working for a negotiated settlement only to be disregarded by Western nations intent on putting a new Libyan government in place.
The South African ambassador to the UN, Baso Sangqu, told the 15-member Security Council July 28 that his country's delegation “echoes the African Union demand for an immediate pause in the fighting and in the NATO bombing.”
“We have noted the calls that ‘Gaddafi must go.' We maintain that such statements do not bring us closer to a political solution,” the South African ambassador said. South Africa is occupying a rotating seat on the Security Council and supported the initial resolutions.
In a speech that was not widely covered by the media, Ambassador Sangqu said, “South Africa remains concerned about the implementation of resolutions 1970 and 1973. Taking sides in an internal conflict situation to institute regime change in Libya sets a dangerous precedent that will surely damage the credibility of the Security Council.”
“Clearly action focused on a military solution has not had its intended purpose, instead it has worked to destabilize the country even further,” he added.
Gabon and Nigeria also initially voted yes on resolutions 1970 and 1973, but the African Union has strongly condemned the bombing of any African nation.
The UN Secretary General's special envoy to Libya announced July 26 through a press office that the “two sides remain far apart on reaching agreement on a political solution.” The two sides are the Gadhafi government and the rebel Transnational Council, which the U.S., France, Italy, Britain have recognized as the legitimate government of Libya.
The two sides, however, “have reaffirmed their desire to continue to engage with the UN in the search for a solution,” said special envoy Abdel-Elah Al-Khatib, a member of Jordan's parliament. Libyan Prime Minister Baghdadi Al-Mahmoud reiterated his government's previous positions against the NATO air strikes and against the removal of Libya's president.
“There comes a time when people have no alternative but resistance,” Viola Plummer, co-founder of the December 12th Movement one of the sponsoring organizations for the Harlem march, said July 30.
“This march will revitalize the Pan African movement. It will broaden our people's world view and demonstrate the need for Africans to unite in our own political and economic interests internationally,” she added.
“We must expose the UN Security Council machinations, Western imperialism; the attack on Black people in the U.S. and all collaborations at every turn,” Ms. Plummer said.
March organizers say the Harlem event has garnered worldwide attention. One dignitary supporting the march is Father Miguel d'Escoto Brockman, a former Nicaraguan foreign minister and the 63rd president of the UN General Assembly.
During his speech at the press conference announcing the march, Father Brockman said the event was important in light of how the media “systemically deceived” the American people.
Meanwhile the killing of a major rebel commander by compatriots raised questions about how the group could stay together and raised again reports that elements of Al-Qaeda were heavily involved in the rebel effort. (See related story on page 12.)
The Chinese news service Xinhuanet reported July 31 NATO's claim of bombing three satellite dishes in Tripoli to “stop” what was labeled “terror broadcasts” by President Gadhafi. However, there are Twitter messages, also July 31, that say Libya television is still on the air.
Just before the Aug. 1 start of Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting and prayer, NATO bombs struck Tripoli, and officials in Brussels would not rule other more strikes—though they were worried about a possible backlash in the Muslim world about strikes during the sacred month. “Tripoli shook with the sound of several explosions as NATO warplanes roared overhead doing what they have been doing since March, striking at what are supposedly Al Qathafi strategic infrastructure, particularly in the Libyan capital, Tripoli,” the Tripoli Post reported. “In normal times, much of the economy in Muslim countries world-wide shuts down as everyone enters a 30-day period of all-day fasting, prayer and the strict avoidance of conflict. But for Libyans this year it is an altogether different proposition. Libyans worry about sanctions and NATO strikes during this month.”
“There is an ongoing armed internal conflict as the rebels from the eastern part of the country battle on in order to reach their aim, of toppling or forcing Libyan leader Muammar Al Qathafi to step down from his high chair. They are involved in a battle that is barely making progress at the best of times, and with NATO forces, attempting to bomb Al Qathafi out of office,” the English language publication said.
“The NATO alliance thought it could finish it off before the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, in time for a new government to take shape. They failed and this month could become a perilous black hole threatening to undermine their whole campaign,” the Tripoli Post observed Aug. 1. “Muslims are not allowed to fight amongst themselves during Ramadan; they are also not allowed to attack another nation. However, they will fight back if they are attacked first, they are allowed to do that.”

Actually, Blakkgiant, I DID read it, but possibly too soon. When I first saw it right after you posted it, all the information wasn't there. When I went and looked back, the time and venue were there in the article SO THERE!!
And, pray tell, I remind you of Whom, exactly?!
(beats me!)
Ahhhhhhh, now I remember: I saw it first before you did your second post. All I saw was the Poster/advert.
And by the way.......it's TRUE that Muslims are allowed to fight back when attacked. That is part of the reason I complained about your remarks.
Assalaamu alaikum, Mr Blakkgiant!

OK. Now about Libya:
First of all, the 'rebels' are mainly a rag-tag bunch of Al-Qaeda-type operatives who have no particular plan or skills to run the country, and apparently a lot of them aren't even Libyans - they are outsiders. Most of their leaders are from countries to the East of Libya. And there are a lot of foreign mercenaries who have been hired by NATO et al.among them. They want to take away from other Libyans the standard of living which is the highest in Africa. Libyans have been extremely well off, due to the policies of Col. Qaddafi and his government. As Col. Qaddafi has said on TV, he no longer runs Libya - "Libya runs itself" via Direct Democracy which has been very succesful.
When the trouble broke out in Libya, the MS News Media began telling LIES about the runnings. LIES UPON LIES UPON LIES.
I used to respect AlJazeera TV because they seemed the most professional and honest - we got them on TV here 24 hours a day and the programming was great and they seemed like a breath of fresh air.
. UNFORTUNATELY, they are Headquartered in Qatar. Sure enough, there are Qatari forces fighting alongside the so-called 'rebels' in eastern Libya. This seems to have compromised their neutrality because they joined in the chorus of LIES to the extent that Col. Qaddafi THREW THEM OUT!! In fact, they represented a bigger threat than the Others because ppl Trusted Them.
They were the ones that spread the LIE that Col. Qaddafi had hired mercenaries from Black countries in Africa to come and kill his own ppl. this was Totally False, according to my grandson who came back from there about 3-4 months ago after living and working there for almost 3 years. He said that the Arab population there believed the lies they had been told about foreign Black mercenaries even though Col. Qaddafi swore that it was untrue. This caused them to turn on any Black person they saw in the street because they were outraged by the story.
So it became necessary for all the hundreds of thousands of West African workers to suddenly depart to whence they had come. My grandson said he spent 2 weeks at the airport along with 60,000 other Ghanaians and 150,000 Nigerians under absolutely appalling conditions until their respective governments repatriated them back home.
He said that what Col. Qaddafi had said was TRUE: that the Black ppl fighting the 'rebels' were REGULAR MEMBERS OF THE LIBYAN ARMY and that includes a fair number of Libyan Blacks. Col. Qaddafi has no shortage of Libyans to defend the country and he doesn't have to hire any outsiders.
So that's the story, according to what I have been told First-hand.

Re: harlem million man march saturday
blakkgiant mi Breddrin.....
There are about 300% (I'm guessing) more Muslims in Africa than there are or ever were in All of former 'Arabia'. Many many millions more, and that ratio you mention of Ghanaians who were abducted into slavery sounds about right proportionately.
There are many many more than even that in Indonesia, which has the largest Muslim population in the World (and may plenty of them be fasting right now, Ameen!)
There have always throughout history been people who were prepared to used religion as a pretext for waging wars and imperialism, but they were always taking advantage of people's ignorance, because there's nothing in the Qur'an that says Muslims should go out and 'conquer' territories. In fact, Islam is very tolerant of other religions and demands that people of all race, wealth, gender and colour must be treated equally in the Religion, according to the Qur'an.
But there have always been individuals ready to make scapegoats of religious of ethnic groups, and unfortunately they have been so convincing that ppl have fallen for it.
Look at the Americans now, for instance. Their campaign against Islam was begun very subtly in the 1970s by the neoliberals who were gathering strength and resented the influence of Islam for the following reasons:
1) Islam's position on Usury: Interest is not supposed to be paid or charged on LOANS
.
2) ZAKAT: The 'compulsory charity' required by Islam every Ramadan. This is a certain percentage of the wealth of people above a certain income level and it's not optional. It's regarded as the poor man's DUE and he has a RIGHT TO IT. The Neoliberals hate anything to be for free because there's no PROFIT in it. Islam is therefor a threat to the prevalent economic order.
3) OIL. Allah conveniently arranged for most of the World's oil to be situated under Muslims Populations because they were supposed to deal with it according to Islamic Principles of Justice and Social Welfare - as Col. Qaddafi has done in Libya, by the way!
Did they do that? To some extent yes, but largely NO.
There are hundreds and perhaps thousands of hospitals, wells, libraries and schools and universities built in Africa ( and probably elsewhere, but I'm here) with Islamic Zakat from Middle-East countries. These have been done by the so-called 'Islamic Charities' which are so dumped-on by the US hatemongers and whose funds have been cut off in so many countries.
On the other hand, a lot of their oil wealth instead of being shared as it should have been has been 'squirreled away' in Swiss Banks and squandered by Muslims who were ignoring their religion. So that isn't the fault of Islam which champions Peace Equality, tolerance and good neighborliness. A Muslim is MANDATED to be 'his brother's keeper'. To say otherwise is to say that the corruption in Jamaica is because of Christianity, which is absurd. It's because of GREED!
The Blacks who really participated in the enslavement of other Blacks were not any particular religion, but were rather PSYCHOPATHS born without a conscience. A man I made the mistake of marrying here came from a family whose history included being party to the Slave Trade, and the man turned out to be a total throwback: a brutal manipulator and tormentor who had no qualms about poisoning his own Mother!
I had always wondered myself how a Black man could contribute to the enslavement of his own Black brothers, but after observing this man for several years I absolutely understood.
What HAS damaged the collective psychology of men in this country was COLONIALISM and the effects of this remain and are demonstrated by a collective preoccupation with RESPECT. There are a lot of Malignant Narcissists here as a result.
But that had absolutely nothing to do with any religion: it was out-and-out Imperialism at work - as it remains today, I might add.
There are a certain number of people here - maybe 10% or so - who still are adherents of the African Religions, but they tend to be looked at skeptically by other Ghanaians because they are too wrapped up in Witchcraft and have some rather 'primitive' beliefs, such as the fish in the Sea are provided by Mammy Watta, the Sea Goddess, who becomes annoyed at anybody who fishes on Tuesdays.
Most adherents of these beliefs are the fishermen, who think they can continue to over-fish the waters with undersized illegal nets because Mammy Watta will always provide more. Then they wonder why the fish are becoming scarce.
In short, the only ppl here who are preoccupied with history from 500 years ago are the 'armchair philosophers' who don't have to struggle to make a daily living as most Ghanaians do.
THEY ARE THE 'NEW ELITE'.
