Dead man robbed at crime scene?

A man who reportedly tried to steal $30 from a body that was fished only minutes before from the Forum Beach in Portmore is now in police custody after he was held in a nearby house with items of clothing that was said to be in the dead man's pocket.
Police report that last Thursday, the body of Garfield Goldsmith, 50-year-old labourer, of Cumberland, Portmore, St Catherine, was pulled from the sea near the Forum Hotel. It is reported that Goldsmith had gone for a swim in the area when he got into difficulties and drowned.
Residents saw his body floating about 1 p.m., on Thursday and summoned the police. The Marine police were called and the body removed.

However, before the body could leave the scene, it is reported that the man reportedly started searching the dead man's clothing and helped himself to $30.
Investigators on the scene got wind of the situation and went in search of the man who was found in a nearby house.
The police also recovered additional pieces of clothing that were said to have belonged to Goldsmith. The Star saw a black jeans pants, sneakers and a plaid shirt which Goldsmith was reportedly wearing before he went into the water.
The man was held and taken back to the scene where he was handcuffed.
Detectives processing the scene questioned the man about his involvement.
The St Catherine South police are investigating the matter.
