u know, i'm gonna be facetious and say if i were a british skinhead, i'd be highly annoyed at this so-called historian's analysis. white, bred in the bone english people have a looong history of civil violence, thank you very much. they dont need to be following "black gangsta culture" to know how to gwaan bad.

A white friend of mine pointed out quite recently that white kids have taken over from the black kids for being angry and hostile.
during the late 70,s and early 80,s the anger and anti-authority was coming mostly from the black youth,..but there is now an underclass of white kids that have grown up on welfare dependency,bad parenting,one parent household,family breakdown,and a lack of discipline and authority,.......these are the kind of kids that were at the forefront of the recent looting.
And as sad as it may sound,with the advent of the internet,black gangstah culture is exactly where these kids get their cue from.

The St Scholastica Day riot of February 10, 1355, is one of the most notorious events in the history of Oxford.[1]

The seed of the riot was an altercation in the Swindlestock Tavern (now the site of the Santander Bank on Carfax) between two students of the University of Oxford, Walter Spryngeheuse and Roger de Chesterfield, and the taverner, John Groidon. They complained about the quality of drinks, which led to an exchange of rude words that ended with the students throwing their drinks at the taverner's face and beating him up.[2] Retaliation for this incident led to armed clashes between locals and students. The mayor of Oxford, John de Bereford, asked the Chancellor of the university, John Charlton, to arrest these two students but they were not. Instead, two hundred students supported Spryngeheuse and Chesterfield, who allegedly assaulted the mayor and others.[2] The riot went over the next two days, which left 63 scholars and perhaps 30 locals dead.[2][3] The scholars were eventually routed.

Also: Here's a list of riots in Bristol alone, going back to 1793. Note that looting accompanied many of these riots.

my point is, that white british youth dont need gangsta culture or jamaican culture as a reason for anti-social behaviour. they have their own long history of rioting.

BTW, i read on the Daily Mail that an uncle of the guy killed by police at the start of this whole mess had a white uncle who is a criminal don.

Exactly. The people of the UK knew how to riot and loot long before patwa speakers arrived.

Starkey has taken the &quot;blame the black people&quot; thing to a new level though, instead of merely saying the white kids drank too much or transit was down or water was too expensive or whatever excuses they normally use when rioters and looters are mostly white, now it's &quot;they're trying to act black&quot;.
