everyone is saying this man was a gentle giant, him no even talk too loud....but it seems his family business was in dispute with some regarding money.....sooo sad,



Music producer Joel Chin was shot dead last night at his home in Stony Hill, St Andrew. Reports are that Mr Chin upon exiting his vehicle around 11pm when he was shot. Residents heard the gunshots called the police. He was rushed to hospital where he died.

VP Records Joel Chin was on Tuesday night shot and killed at his home in Stony Hill, St Andrew.

The grandson of VP Records founder Vincent Chin, son of famed reggae producer Clive Chin and nephew of the owners of VP Records, Chris and Randy Chin, Joel literally grew up in the reggae business and put his vast knowledge and connections at the service of the music he loved passionately.



Joining the company in the 90s, Joel was instrumental in launching and fostering the careers of international reggae stars such as Sean Paul, TOK, Beres Hammond, Wayne Wonder, Beenie Man, Sizzla, Morgan Heritage, Tarrus Riley and Etana while creating the top reggae compilations in the world: Reggae Gold and Strictly The Best. Joel was loved by the creative community in Jamaica and around the world

and had a long-standing relationship with some of the top producers in the island such as Dean Fraser and Steven &quot;Lenky&quot; Marsden. Joel's signings helped VP Records become the largest reggae label in the world and brought reggae into the mainstream music market culminating with Sean Paul's Dutty Rock album which sold over seven million units worldwide.

An accomplished producer, Joel had moved from New York to Jamaica two years ago to spend more time on music production, songwriting and developing rising talents. Joel wrote hit songs for many artistes such as Elephant Man and Etana among many others.

Joel is survived by his mother Juliette, his father Clive, his newborn daughter, two brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral service and arrangements will be announced at a later date.

REGGAE label VP Records is in mourning, following the murder of Joel Chin, grandson of the company's founders, Pat and Vincent Chin.

The 35-year-old producer, who also headed up VP's Artiste and Repertoire department, was reportedly shot and killed as he drove into the driveway of his Stony Hill apartment in St Andrew on Tuesday night. According to reports, Chin died instantly.

VP Records, whose roster boasts artistes, including Beres Hammond, Tarrus Riley and Etana, released a statement saying:

&quot;It is with great sadness that VP Records must announce the passing of Joel Chin at the age of 35. Joel was shot last night (Tuesday, August 16) outside his home in Stony Hill, St Andrew, in Jamaica. The cause was not immediately known.

As the news of Chin's murder spread, a host of reggae stars and insiders took to Twitter to pay tribute to the much-loved producer, who had bases in both Jamaica and New York.

Sean Paul tweeted: &quot;As another bright light fades, we give tnx 4 life and reminisce. R.I.P. Joel Chin.&quot; Fellow dancehall star Shaggy simply wrote: &quot;RIP Joel Chin.&quot;

BBC 1Xtra's dancehall DJ Robbo Ranx said: &quot;Deepest condolence goes out to the family of Joel Chin of VP Records ... always made me feel welcome in NY.&quot;

Chin was also responsible for The Reggae Gold and Strictly The Best series from VP.

The Director of A&amp;R for VP Records, Joel Chin, 35, was fatally shot in the head in front of his Stony Hill, St Andrew home, a few miles north of Jamaica's capital Kingston, at 10:45 PM last night (August 16) as he alighted from his car. Neighbors heard explosions and called the Stony Hill police. Chin was taken to Kingston Public Hospital where he was officially pronounced dead.

Joel Chin is the son of reggae producer Clive Chin, best known for his work with Black Uhuru and the late melodica player Augustus Pablo, and the grandson of Vincent and Patricia Chin, who founded VP Records in Kingston, Jamaica in 1959.

There is currently no known motive for his murder although an investigation is pending; the assailants remain at large.

Born in Jamaica and raised in New York, Chin joined VP Records in the mid-1990s working at the company's Queens, NY office, alongside his uncles, VP CEO Christopher Chin and President Randy Chin. He is responsible for signing some of reggae's most successful acts to the label including Beenie Man, Wayne Wonder and Sean Paul who released his debut album &quot;Stage One&quot; on VP in 2000.

In 2002 VP, the world's largest independent reggae label with its own distribution network and publishing arm, entered into a strategic partnership deal with Atlantic Records. Sean Paul's multiplatinum &quot;Dutty Rock&quot; was the first album released through that arrangement.

Chin's A&amp;R direction played a major role in the success of VP's annual reggae compilations &quot;Strictly The Best&quot; and &quot;Reggae Gold&quot;; released on June 8, Reggae Gold 2011 has spent six weeks on the reggae chart, peaking at number one.

Chin relocated to Kingston two years ago to facilitate his work with the many VP artists residing in Jamaica's capital. In addition to his A&amp;R direction on acclaimed albums by contemporary roots reggae artists Tarrus Riley, Duane Stephenson and Etana, Chin was also involved with production and songwriting. His final project for VP was &quot;We Remember Gregory&quot;, a various artists tribute to the late Gregory Isaacs released yesterday (August 16) for which he served as an executive producer alongside Chris Chin.

&quot;Joel was committed to music, so intrigued by manipulating sound,&quot; says his co-director of A&amp;R at VP, Neil &quot;Diamond&quot; Edwards. &quot;To keep his life going, to keep his spirit alive ,we have to continue to put out good music because that was all he was interested in.&quot;

Yet They expect yo be safe wherever they are.

They believe That these safe countries got That safe by accident.

Or if it got there without going through certain steps.

Just wait until the Bermuda, Barbados, Cayman And the other supposed safe havens start report their crimes.

i dont know if the answer is to &quot;run away&quot; from our island homes and leave it to the criminals to rule.
maybe the answer is in using our status as an independent diaspora to agitate ourselves bravely in our island homes to make a positive change...

for every 1 that return and is killed, there are possibly 50 that return and live safely.. for every 50 of us who leave looking for safety elseware, there is possibly 20 who life is shortened by the north-american environment and lifestyle..
