FORT GRATIOT, Mich. (WJBK) - Ed Eiermann was cruising Craigslist looking for a new career. He was hoping to find something closer to home when he came across Garfield's. It is a bar and grill in Fort Gratiot. They were looking for servers, so he said where do I sign up?
"I went and applied last week," said Eiermann.
He showed up with his resume and according to him the manager "was thoroughly impressed."
So Eiermann reached out to the restaurant the next day to find out if he got the job and Garfield's had good news.
"On Friday, I (said), 'You're telling me that I'm hired?' He's like absolutely," Eiermann told FOX 2's Andrea Isom. "'It's not a question on if you're hired, but when to start … We'll start you on Wednesday.'"
Eiermann was eager to get the ball rolling. He spent $35 on a brand new uniform and showed up for training, but about a half hour later they told him to go home.
"About four hours later I get a call from Garfield's saying it was all a mix-up. 'I am so sorry. It was somebody else. We thought we were talking to somebody else,'" Eiermann said. "I (said), 'Is this something I did?' 'No, it's not something you did. It was just a big mix-up. Don't worry. It's not you. We'll get you money for your uniform.'"
"It was, 'Oh, it was somebody else that we were looking to hire. It wasn't you. It was a mix-up of paperwork and names,'" he added. "'Is there anything I can do to make it better for you?' I'm like, 'Yeah, can I keep my job?'"
He had already quit the one he had previously.
"I feel like crap, honestly," said Eiermann.
Here's how this whole mix-up happened. The manager said he is really sorry about all this and admitted that he made the mistake. He explained that when Eiermann called, there were two resumes or applications in front of him and the names of the applicants were kind of similar, so when he said you're hired, he was looking at the wrong one.
Eiermann understands that people make mistakes. He just wants a job and hopes the next one doesn't get taken away.
