the reason the have become known as conspiracy theories is that often the explanation is hinged on the cooperation of several people (or groups of people) to carry out surreptitious plan. hence it meets the definition of conspiracy.

i agree with you that in many case the "official" explanation is even more conspiratorial.

You're right, it's not so easy.
Human brain fills in the unknowns with assumptions, thus inducing bias.
Otherwise no decision could be made, or else you would get stuck everytime you're missing a piece of information, which is often.
So what's a credible source to me today, could cease to be so tomorrow since I gained an addition piece of the puzzle that was filled in with an assumption before.
Plus you constantly have to filter the information coming in, since not everything that is said to be correct is correct. You could also be making
mistakes rating the info coming in, thus intoducing more error to your perceptions.

However, with a little bit of experience you start recognising certain sources are more credible than others.

I should've added: ...no matter how ridiculous the official story may be.

For example, a guy slams a plane into a skyscraper. The plane and building are on fire; the building collapses but, according to the official story, they found his passport in the burning rubble of a 110 floor tower. Which proves he was piloting the plane.

Passport survived, black box didn't.
