Chairs, desks, markers, whiteboard dusters, a producer, a director, media and representatives from LIME were all present, but Vybz Kartel was absent from the press briefing of his reality TV series at LIME Jamaica Corporate Office, Kingston 10, yesterday.
After waiting for 45 minutes, it was announced that Vybz Kartel would be late for the event due to 'legitimate medical reasons'. However, after almost an hour, clips from the show and several speakers later, there was still no Vybz Kartel.
Nonetheless, the proceeding was started by LIME's Head of Television and Entertainment, Tara Playfair-Scott. She explained that after premiering on CVM TV this Friday night at 10 p.m., the 'Too Hot for TV' episodes will be aired on LIME's Peppa channel at 11 p.m.
"Action that will not be free to air we will have them on Peppa," she said.
major risk
When questioned about the risks to the LIME brand for airing a show of this nature, Playfair-Scott said there is no major risk.
"LIME TV provides a myriad of content. There will be aspects of it that we know children under 18 should not be watching. Most persons here have cable. At any time of the day, you might see things that are for mature audiences, so we don't think it is a risk," she said of the programme that will be rated TV-PG on CVM TV and TV-MA on Peppa channel.
In her overview of the show, Carleene Samuels, producer for Teacha's Pet, said it is 100 per cent Jamaican.
"There's nothing new under the sun and so this idea is a dating show which is a mixture of all the dating shows. It is a hundred per cent Jamaican," she said.
Samuels added that the 12-episode series will have 20 girls engaging in activities and challenges in order to be the ultimate 'Teacha's Pet'. She noted that the girls were selected from about 1,000 entries coming from places like Africa, Netherlands, Japan, Iran, Canada, United States, Russia, Australia, several Caribbean islands and parts of Jamaica. Amelia 'Milk' Sewell will also be making her return to TV as a host, who is referred to as the 'Substitute Teacha'. Along with Popcaan, Sewell will help Vybz Kartel to choose his pet.
The show's director, Jay Will, explained that he has always wanted to do a reality TV series, having worked at MTV on Real World New York and Real World Chicago. He said it was the right time for a show of this nature and "this is just the first of many other types of shows to come. It is just a sneak peek into the life of Vybz Kartel."
However, Jay Will skirted around whether or not there will be subsequent seasons of Teacha's Pet.
