SOMERVILLE — Gov. Chris Christie was hospitalized this morning after he complained of having trouble breathing, according to the governor's office.
A spokesman, Michael Drewniak, said Christie suffers from asthma, and was taken to Somerset Medical Center in Somerville "out of an abundance of caution."
Drewniak said the governor was "doing fine" and undergoing tests.
At town hall events, Christie often tells audiences that he has asthma. When explaining the difference between the federal government's health care plans and New Jersey's, he describes going to his local pharmacist to refill his inhaler prescription.
Christie had been scheduled to attend a bill-signing ceremony at 10:30 a.m. in Hillsborough, but the event was canceled. He is also expected to take questions at 7 p.m. tonight on "Ask the Governor," a monthly call-in radio show on New Jersey 101.5 FM, but there was no indication whether he would participate.
The two black SUVs that transport the governor are parked outside the emergency room of the Somerset Medical Center.
A tan SUV, often used to transport his wife and children, is also parked outside the emergency room.
The Somerset Medical Center is located between the governor's home and the press conference he had scheduled for today in Hillsborough.

Wendy, I'm guessing that this is probably the first time that the word "skeleton" has ever been used in reference to Christie....

Re: Too Fat to Be President ?
mi did read the article, RC. my point still stands. in america, it is your looks that carry your fortunes. a thin man with heart disease stands a better chance of being considered for president, than a fat man with a healthy heart. as others would say, i are unanimous in that opinion.

Re: Too Fat to Be President ?
J - we're living in a COMPLETELY different world nowadays.
Teddy & Taft were presidents in the past yes - but it wouldn't work today. The marketing of a president is totally different today - marketing ANYthing is totally different today.
Hell, when Taft was president, there was no Iphone, no MSNBC, web, tv was barely a thought - a large portion of Americans never even laid EYES on him.
Are you kidding me? Looks are almost half the battle.
It'll be a while before we have an obese president or one w/out a full head of hair.
Quite a while.

Plus Wendy, dem time deh - being heavy/fat, wasn't as much a negative as it is now. The heavier you were, the more your were seen as prosperous and 'healthy' believe it or not.
