where to draw the line.

Today while taking a break in between furniture shopping...decided to grab a bite to eat at a local sandwich shoppe in town. Pulled up and notice that a protest was going on across the parking lot. Mi go inside the shoppe and inquire about the protest. What them protesting?...<span style="font-weight: bold">the shoppe and the owner.</span> Why? Because the owner serves homeless people. The shoppe only requirement is that the homeless person must eat on the premises (I guess so they can read the strategically placed brochures on the table about drug counseling, etc) and they have to pay something for their meal (no limit on what they order).

Protesters &quot;concerned&quot; that the business is attracting crime and bringing down the neighbourhood.

wth??? in a time of great adversity they should applaud the efforts of the shop owner to help alleviate the problem of hunger among the local homeless...shame and plagues to dem an dem generations!!

i will admit that i was a little taken aback when mi walk in deh and spot few men, as well as a woman ahn har pikney eating. I guess is cah them well ahn could use a bath, etc. Some ah di protesters say the business must mek the homeless people use back door or come fi food when the other business clothes. The Shoppe seh them not doing that cah homeless people is people ahn should come in front door just like the rest of folks, besides them is paying customer (even though them pay as they can).

The other business say the shoppe a chase weh them customers.

On one hand the business have the right to serve who them want, but the other business them have that right too.... aye sah.

No kia if you feed the homeless in Orlando you will get arrestedl. Quite a few people got arrested couple a months ago for feeding the homeless in Lake Eola Park

We waste a lot of food. I do some work with “feed the hungry” organizations, and I think it’s a travesty how much food many would rather see taken away by garbage men than given to people to eat.

All that being said, I do somewhat get why you may not want to sit next to a homeless person while eating a $70 meal at Ruth’s Chris Steak House or what not. Keeping it real, there is an odor that is not conducive to enjoyable dining. Still, personal discomfort could not make me deny someone a meal. It’s unconscionable.

Aside from hygiene issues which the &quot;homed&quot; often have as well, I think the problem may be that the homeless are able to buy the food for less. People are vexed because they are paying more for the same thing.

As for the Florida law about getting arrested for feeding the homeless, I’m not sure I have heard anything crazier ever. On what grounds? If I wish to split my pbj sandwich on a park bench with satan, what does the legal system have to do with that?

This whole thing reminds me of a man who I never respected again.

Dunkin Donuts in Manhattan. We went so I could have some tea. This homeless lady complete with a very pissy smell asked me to buy her a cup of coffee. She was a 50-ish white woman, not too skinny which seemed to indicate she had not been on the streets for too long.

She grabbed me by the arm in what appeared to be desperation. It could have been an act, but I can't see why. He didn't want me to give her the mere $1 and said I would go broke with the number of people begging for money.

I still bought her the cup of coffee. I wish I had bought her a bagel sandwich or something to eat too.
