HOUSTON -- Police are investigating a shootout at a Southeast Houston Valero gas station Saturday.
It happened around 6:45 a.m. on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Belarbor Street.
Store employees told Local 2 that masked robbers ran into the store and began firing before they even demanded money.
Police said surveillance cameras caught the entire scene.
In the surveillance video, one of the robbers was seen climbing over the counter as another masked man continued firing. One of the gas station's clerks was hit in the leg. Then another employee was seen dodging bullets as he grabbed a gun on a shelf. That's when police said the employee shot at the robber behind the counter, hitting him twice in the arm.
"He did what he had to do to protect himself and his co-worker," said T. Triplett, a Houston police officer.
The wounded thief then scrambled back over the counter and out the door.
Triplett said they were able to track the injured robber to a house a few blocks away, and took him into custody.
Houston police are still searching for the other robber in the store, and possibly a third person in a getaway car.
