Bee Hive of sorts

Have you ever walked upon something that looked like this?




I did yesterday. The cluster was narrower but much longer. I don't remember when last fear had that tight of a grip on me. I seriously did break out in a cold sweat.

Butterfly had the nerve to bark, and I couldn't even get "hush" out my dry mouth. I just reached down and clamped her muzzle shut with my hand. I picked her up off the ground,went directly home walking very lightly, and never looked back.

What in the world was that about? Are bees even in season now? I would call someone, but I don't know what agency to call.

Seen it , it's called swarming. Short answer, the old hive is crowded and they are looking for a new home. 99% not dangerous.

So it's really not dangerous Ripton? It looked very intimidating. I could not have been more frightened if it had been a man in ski mask holding a pump gun. Just the thought of having to take all those stingers was horrifying.

it is beautiful....given that the death of bees (empty hive syndrone) is singularly the greatest enviromental disaster that we currently face seeing bees is always a releif....

u could literally put ur hand in the center and take out the queen they would go all over you without a sting.. one of the miracles of nature... my old man did this a few times and put the queen on me and told me to remain still and they all sat on me without a single sting.... And I thought all Jamaicans are close to nature...

I'm not Jamaican Wahalia.

I could share some ancestors with some folks who were living here first or got hauled over, but my entire known background is American. Interesting thing though is my older relatives have very similar sayings as the USVI. I think it must have been the proximity since I'm from the deep south..

very unlikely, the queen is in the centre and they are attracted by the pheromones she is giving off, they will move off when the scouts come back with a suitable new location.

I have seen swams a few times and to me it is one of the most beautiful things.... looks at the synergy of the hive working together.. look at how the weight is distribute.... the mathematics and physics of it is phenomenal...As I said my fahter handled bees and I held a queen while they swamed on me..

I dont get why u are scared of bees though... By the way I hate honey, I am alegic to it...but bees are cool....thye are amazing... one of the things if Iever retire is to keep bees...they are the most wonderful creatures...

Now u should hear me eulogise spiders! webs stronger than steel!... webs good for healing cuts with anitbiotic and alergesic properites....

I'm not afraid of spiders. There was one in the old house that must have been carrying some little ones on her back and when they broke apart and scattered, I though I was going to stroke out. That was an extreme case though.

I am afraid of bees because I always get stung. That includes wasps, yellow jackets and the like. Example: My mom, dad, brother, and I were going down the steps under the carport. There was a wasp nest in my brother's bedroom window. I was the 3rd person. Whap, right on my shoulder. The only one. Why me? I could go on and on. Believe me seeing that many at once was like please don't come for me.
