..POLL "customer service" and Jamaica

curious to know what your experience been when interfacings with "service" personnel in Jamaica..
Wheter it be the cashier at the supermarket, the fast food employee, the telephone operator at the law firm handling your business, the receptionist or operator at the utility company.. any individual where you'd expect some level of sevice from.. What has your experience been?

I find customer service to be worse in South Florida.

the tourist industry wasn't mentioned specifically, however, here (bahamas) once in having a discussion that turned to the best customer service experience, 2 bahamians named Jamaica-in the hotels they stayed in.
I can agree, on a seminar trip back in 08, held at gran bahia principe outside runaway bay the service was great. On a cruise this summer, ochie was a port-of-call, the bahamians gave big tips and were impressed by the treatment they got.
(maybe tourists get better treatment?)

in my experience i find that if you go i expecting bad service that is exactly what you going to get.

i remember that we got good service in the tourist areas.

Wid all due respect tuh mi learned colleague; but gwey wid dat!

Wi bad inna Kingston fi sure, but yuh can get jus as bad service ah country tuh, especially if yuh dark an smaddy lighter com in same time, or after di dark skin smaddi.

Oh well, in dat case dem how dem treat yuh depend pan yuh ackcent. If yuh sound educated speaky-spokey, den dem treat yuh wan way, as oppose tuh if yuh ah chap semi-patwa, or sound like yuh raw jus ah com fram country side.

It depends. It's not consistant across the board.

Also depends what you are comparing it to.
With the substandard customer service I deal with everyday in Dubai, almost anywhere in the world is going to rate 'excellent' in comparison.

Digicel - excellent, always friendly, and sort out my problem more time

Highway 3000 Toll Booth - average, if you say good afternoon dem will reply, but they won't do it first like Japan.

Island Grill - Average. Accurate and efficient but not very friendly.

Airport check in staff - Excellent. Always very friendly, and alway bly mi wid mi house an sink weh mi a carry to farrin.

Megamart - Excellent. Help mi find my parking ticket weh mi lose weh day.

Island Car - Excellent. Always friendly and efficient.

Squeegie man - depending on the corner, ranges from excellent (tek weh demself if you nuh waan you glass wash) to terrible (will dutty up yuh glass)

Gleaner Lady - Excellent. Will risk foot fi come inna traffic an sell you a copy, with change ready.

So is a hit or miss.

I think customer service in Jamaica has improved greatly in the past 7 years and it depend greatly on the industry...

I've had successful overseas calls and timely response to my emails by CSRs particularly at Digicel and the banking industry. Couple years ago, my sister and I had to sort out our father's pension check and the gov't agency outta Wolmer's High school way (that general vicinity) were *very* efficient. Even though the woman had a pile load of binding folders, metal cabinet, fifty thousand sheets of paper under a rubber band, she found his info in record time and got right down to business and sorted it all out. The staff at the mega super center off Valentine Drive and the supermarket behind Carib theatre are efficient and friendly.

The good service that I've experienced in recent past in Jamaica far exceed what I've been experiencing in the United States.
