The Peoples' National Party (PNP) said it will remove the General Consumption Tax (GCT) on electricity if it forms the next government.
The PNP has also pledged to also eliminate GCT on some basic food items. Speaking to supporters during a rally in Papine in St Andrew, PNP president Portia Simpson Miller said removing the GCT on electricity would reduce the high cost being borne by the productive sector.
According to Mrs Simpson Miller, removal of the GCT on electricity would also help burdened households and provide an incentive to manufacturers and other businesses.
The GCT is only applied to consumption above 200 kilo Watt hours. </span>
