Pat Robertson Asks ‘What Is This Mac And Cheese, Is That A Black Thing?’


700 Club host Pat Robertson was utterly flummoxed over a Thanksgiving food item discussed by co-anchor Kristi Watts during an interview with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. “What is this Mac and Cheese, is that a black thing?” Robertson asked in bewilderment.

“What’s that one thing at Thanksgiving you just have to have?” Watts, who happens to be African-American, had asked Rice.

“It’s Mac and Cheese,” Rice responded.

A <span style="font-weight: bold">confused Robertson, who grew up in Lexington, Virginia, acted like he had never heard of the culinary dish, a popular American staple for generations and absent-mindedly singled out the meal as a food reserved for blacks.</span>

Smithsonian Magazine notes that Kraft Foods first introduced its boxed macaroni and cheese in 1937.

<span style="font-style: italic">“It is a black thing, Pat!” exclaimed Watts. “Listen! And you guys! The world needs to get on board with macaroni and cheese. Seriously, I just– Christmas and Thanksgiving, we have to have macaroni and cheese and it just trips me out that you just don’t. ”</span>“I don’t and I have never!” the televangelist conceded.

but seriously, i dont know, it sounds as if Mac &amp; Cheese is not a necessity with whites as it is with blacks?? i dont really know though,

in my runnings, mac &amp; cheese is a must have???

Back in the day it was a staple because of its price but now it just look like they are using too much food coloring.....haven't had it in years.

Me too. My Mac &amp; Cheese is made from scratch as well.

Don't mess with my Ramen Noodles though. That chemical mess was my savior back in college days and now it is the staple dinner for my kids in college as well.

I'm white. I was born and raised Jewish. I was raised upper middle class in Philadelphia - a big city. (it was the fourth largest city in the USA at the time)
And I was raised with <span style="font-weight: bold">macaroni and cheese as one of my favorite dishes</span>. In fact mac and cheese was my <span style="font-style: italic">ONLY</span> fave food that wasn't an egg or a potato. (My Russian genes showing themselves, I'm afraid.)

And all Catholics - white or otherwise - eat macaroni and cheese regularly, especially during Lent. Large families in which money must stretch and meatless fast days for the sake of religion see to that.
