i'll go against the grain of most jamaicans who suffer from stockholm syndrome and say portia has far more right to be queen of jamaica than the german-british woman named elizabeth

the point is that Portia did not understand the question..

how does one answer the question of Jamaica moving away from the West Minister system of government, with a preposition of there being a Jamaican Queen being the solution????

Moving away from the West Minister system of government would include the removal of the soverign head (which would mean NO European NOR &quot;JAMAICAN QUEEN&quot; )

It includes, moving away from Prime Minister and members of parliments
Moving away from the Parlimentary systems and its previlages.. this includes getting rid of an official opposition house of parliment


The question had to do with Jamaica's method of governance and Portia misunderstood the question..

Simply replacing Queen Elizabeth (with Portia ) as queen does NOT consititute the removal of the West Minister system of governance...

i actually heard her address the question...
she said she would move toward getting rid of the british queen as jamaica's official head of state..

yes her answer was somewhat comical at the end when she added the remark about a j'can queen...

but having a jamaican queen does not automatically imply that type of gov't...

plenty of places have monarchs who have no actual gov't functions...more ceremonial;

at the end of the day j'cans accept a german-british queen as head of state but would laugh at the idea of a jamaican queen-- even in a possibly ceremonial role;

a true snapshot of our backwardness

they have the same kind of government as Jamaica...constitutional monarchy.


what is confusing to me is the discussion of becoming a republic has been part of the political debate for quite a while PJ was discussing..Seaga was discussing. i don't recall the simple replacement of the queen with one of our own ever being part o f that discussion.
