let's face it--- no other parties are allowed to challenge the pnp/jlp stranglehold masquerading as choice;

now just biding time until i can return and rabblerouse...if it is the destiny then one day you will see an alternative...
until that day my alternative is the one most of us here took (although at the time it was my parents' choice as i had not yet reached the age of majority)...leaving the place due to the perception that any &quot;developed&quot; country (a.k.a. euro/american) must be better

i have said time and time again , that my main problem wid tourism in Ja is the absence of the Multiplier effect that we r taught in Economics....and we know that that is private sector investment wid taxes picking up the many failures etc...so we can see that past 'pairing' of govament n private sector has not been done in effective, job creation ways...service industry is nutten...n the HEART thingy wich supplies the bodies for the industry, well, dem hotels use dem fi di probationary period n den let dem go...so dem have a supply chain wid no real overhead

i agree dat there is waste in government...lot of overlapping in jobs not to mention obsolete positions...the first set dem need fi trim is the civil service..wid all the graft and corruption in government ministries dem not doing dem oversight job

as to private sector, until u change di old guard who have di lock on who r wat is defines as 'private sector' in Ja, u not going to get much change...look at all that was sold off by FINSAC...just languishing in some foreigner's portfolio...wont name her since is inherit she inherit from har husband...but a lot of wat could be used is tied up in offshore ownership n Crown ownership

graft and corruption has to be controlled and curtailed before any movement going to mek...n graft and corruption also mean di sidedeals that tie the nation's assets in nonproduction....keep em poor an u keep em grasping at promises

i'm not confident some other party would have all the answers but i am confident the two-headed beast does not...
it's not so much a tool that is not being tapped...but more a tool being prevented from being tapped by those with the power to prevent it..

everything is just for a time still

To be fair to the RJR Group, they have suspended commercials submitted by the People's National Party (PNP) as well, on the same basis that there were issues that needed adjustment to meet their broadcast standards. This approach applies equally to general ads and is nothing new.

But if it is believed that ads such as the Portia tracing commercial was the answer to this dearth of creativity, then the JLP has made a sad, very sad mistake.

<span style="font-weight: bold">Jamaicans have been clamouring for a new type of politics and wanting to put behind them the nasty, hurtful campaigning that ended up solidifying the ugly tribal divisions that have characterised our politics.

This is borne out by the spontaneous celebration-like atmosphere that marked the recent Nomination Day activities, when supporters of the Opposition PNP and the ruling JLP -- clad in their party regalia -- danced, sang and mingled together without the customary fights and mayhem.

Naturally, the Portia ad would have been tempting and the JLP, unwisely, yielded to temptation. Indeed, the JLP ad script writers might want to argue that Mrs Simpson Miller did rant and rave from a party platform in 2007.

But they can't have it both ways. JLP leader Mr Andrew Holness, the undoubted trump card in the JLP's deck, has campaigned on the basis of a new politics, saying he represents the renewal that Jamaicans have been longing for. As the first post-Independence party leader, he has promised civility and decency and to take the high road.

That ad is inconsistent with that position and cannot stand. It may even suggest that the producers are hardly better than the thing they hope voters will abhor in the opposition leader.

The people will judge Mrs Simpson Miller as to her character, as they did in 2007. The JLP needs to have a little more faith in the good sense of the Jamaican voter.
