Not the religious right, the tea party or those in the south. This is the so called "base" that got Dubya past Gore. Romney does not, for the most part, have their support.

Unlikely. Plus Romney "cutting loose" from Mormonism can't be done just like that. The Romney family is known as one of the "Mormon Elite". Their members can be found at the highest levels of the church going back many years now. And Mitt himself has, as I said before, been promoted to the Melchizedek priesthood. And he takes his faith very seriously.
