A. Huffington to First Lady: 'Go to South Central'


The political commentator says that the first lady should focus less on fundraisers and more on the struggles in America. (AP)


Writer, political commentator and Huffington Post co-founder Arianna Huffington offered some very interesting - some may say offensive - advice to first lady Michelle Obama during an episode of her “Both Sides Now with Huffington and Matalin” radio program.

She told Mrs. Obama, who was born and raised in the ‘hood in Chicago, to be more like Eleanor Roosevelt and visit “South Central (L.A.)”

Huffington advised her that she should more action-oriented by demonstrating her compassion for people’s suffering.

<span style="font-weight: bold">Huffington stated:</span>

&quot;I’d love [Michelle] to be more [like] Eleanor Roosevelt right now, because the country needs an Eleanor Roosevelt who’s going to go around and at the same time that she’s doing fundraisers in Beverly Hills and Bel Air … she should go to South Central [Los Angeles], I mean, if I were Michelle Obama right now, I would not go anywhere for a fundraiser without going and seeing the places where there is pain, where there is struggle, where there is homelessness, where there is unemployment.&quot;

<span style="font-weight: bold">AH</span> needs to take her own advice.....Pretty sure being from South ChiTown Mrs. Obama overstand the mechanics of the hood very well!

as much as it pains me to say this - Mrs. Obama reminds me more of Nancy Reagan. She has no official power, just the ability to draw attention to something. I believe both ladies attempted to affect change by influencing some fundamental area of our society.

Mrs. Reagan's approach was often derided, but it was the correct thing to do - try to change the DEMAND side of drugs, and the SUPPLY side will wither.

Mrs. Obama's approach is currently underrated, but she is making an effort against the semi-food, eat ourselves sick type of environment our children are growing up in.

Fortunately for Huffington, there is only one FLOTUS, and many pundits, so as they say in Jamaica, mout mek fi seh anyting.

Ah dat me ah seh too.

Mrs. Obama no doubt still has family in the area where she came from and goes there for family functions, etc. (at least before becoming FLOTUS). Isn't Rev. Wright's church in that same neighborhood?

why is she obligated to do anything? she's the president's wife, she didn't run for any office. all Jackie kennedy did was redecorate the white house, have miscarriages and wear pill box hats

I agree, and than take a ride through a middle class neighborhood where there is pain and she should drag her husband with her...because that's where the votes come from.

Rich is rich regardless of skin color...they both have a disconnect from both black and white people that are middle class or poor. Money is the great equalizer. All wealthy people like Obama and Huff are the color green as in the color of money.
