One of two Jamaicans who were aboard the luxury cruise ship Costa Concordia that ran aground off the coast of Italy last week has returned to the island.
Antonio Wright says he was allowed to return without documentation and praised Jamaica’s foreign ministry for offering assistance.
The Costa Concordia capsized off the coast of Tuscany after hitting a rock that left a gaping hole in the hull. Up to yesterday, the number of persons killed in the disaster had climbed to 12.
Recounting his ordeal, Mr Wright, a St Mary native who was working as a chef on the luxury ship, says the accident felt like an earthquake.
He says amidst the chaos, he managed to remain calm and plotted his escape from the doomed ship.
Mr Wright was full of praise for the company that operates the ship and says after a short break he will be back on the seas.
