Manny that is the cold truth that none of the Whitney faithful and Bobby haters want to admit. I will say she may not have been as into the drug scene as Bobby, I have no proof to this statement simply hypothesizing, and he may have aided in her addiction becoming as bad as it did.

However you are 100% correct she was using before she met Bobby and as a 29 year old woman who had been in the spotlight for over a decade should be held responsible for her actions.

I am sorry that Whitney never really was able to have the &quot;come to Jesus&quot; that Bobby appears to have had. He seems clean even drinking seems rare or nonexistent for Bobby. Addicts in general need to genuinely have a close to death scare to have any hope of stopping and even that may not be enough.

Trouble with a near death scare is its close to death and by definition could easily be an actual death.</div></div>

Dudd, you are an idiot. I don't choose compassion simply by a color of a person's skin. I don't have compassion for people that destroy their own lives with drugs. I do have compassion for the families of these people that are left behind to deal with the carnage of their recklessness. People that destroy their lives with drugs are selfish.
If addicts don't care about thmselves, they should at least care about the loving families left behind that feel the hurt and pain.

I have personal experience with this type of situation. My niece died of a heroin overdose on Christmas Day 5 years ago. My brother and sister inlaw found her in their home when they returned from our usual family gathering. I was the first one to arrive at the house to communciate with police, medic and funeral home...Trust me, a family that was completely devastated and they will not ever recover.

But, I digress, my initial point was about the redundant coverage and exploitation by mass media of any news relating to death, tragedy and especially dirty laundry to the point of nauseousness...this was not an attack on Whitney, but on media coverage...the rest just seem to spill out after Trops comment. I meant no offense to Ms. Houston and her fans on this site.

Newark, New Jersey (CNN) -- Singer Bobby Brown made a brief and dramatic appearance at ex-wife Whitney Houston's memorial service Saturday, leaving abruptly after being told that his entourage couldn't sit together, police sources told CNN.
Brown accused security of treating his family badly and barring him from visiting with his daughter, an account that Houston's family vehemently denied, according to a family friend.
Brown was seen arriving with several people and had sat down in the front row of a section marked off for family, before being asked to move. Brown had entered the church with other mourners, separate from Houston's family. He appeared emotionally distraught, with red eyes and head hanging as he walked up the aisle of the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. He approached Houston's casket, passed it and went back down the aisle. Ultimately, he left the church.
Security workers appeared to ask others, including celebrities and government officials, to also change seats to make room for everyone.

&quot;My children and I were invited to the funeral of my ex-wife Whitney Houston,&quot; Brown later said in a statement. &quot;We were seated by security and then subsequently asked to move on three separate occasions. I fail to understand why security treated my family this way and continued to ask us and no one else to move. Security then prevented me from attempting to see my daughter Bobbi Kristina.
&quot;In light of the events, I gave a kiss to the casket of my ex-wife and departed as I refused to create a scene. ... I will continue to pay my respects to my ex-wife the best way I know how,&quot; the statement said.

When Brown refused, the family asked police to intervene.

Brown was scheduled to perform with his group, New Edition, later Saturday in Connecticut. Brown considers performing as therapy to get him through a difficult time, a source close to him said Sunday.
He and Houston were married from 1992 until 2007, with Houston getting sole custody of their daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, when they divorced. Their daughter was born in 1993.
When they married in July 1992, questions arose about whether it was a publicity stunt to help polish Brown's image as a bad boy who had weathered drug rumors and had acknowledged having three children out of wedlock. Houston scoffed at such rumors, saying that anyone who questioned their marriage didn't understand what the commitment meant to her. They married in a lavish ceremony at her New Jersey estate.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, reports begin to surface about Houston's struggles with drug addiction, health problems and her rocky marriage with Brown. Her album sales dropped, and her voice began to show signs of wear.
In a now-infamous interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer in 2002, Houston admitted using drugs, but denied using crack. &quot;Crack is whack,&quot; she said, quoting a line from a mural painted in 1986. In the same interview, Houston said, &quot;The biggest devil is me. I'm either my best friend or my worst enemy.&quot;
In 2004, filming began on the short-lived reality show &quot;Being Bobby Brown.&quot; &quot;The show aired during the worst years of the couple's crumbling marriage: drug use, lifestyle excess and bad behavior were all caught on tape, and Houston's reputation sunk to new lows,&quot; according to Biography.com. They're gone now, mercifully!

We even went to the airport (we live about 10 minutes' drive from Newark Airport) to visit with, and have supper with, Mr Witchy's old college roommate and his wife, as they passed through on their way to Bonaire. (a 4.5-hour layover)
We haven't seen our friends - from Gloucester, Cape Ann, MA - in about 16 years. We had <span style="font-style: italic">so much fun</span> with them!

My point being: By evening, the airport was relatively quiet. All of the celebs were already gone.

I understand and know where you are coming from lonrwolf with your thoughts in regards to the media and losing a much loved one to substance abuse. The media, as it is, will grind a news item until the next big shocker makes nation or international headlines. Whitney Houstons passing was indeed shocking to everyone, despite the possible signs of it happening...my thoughts went from shock to the <span style="font-weight: bold">many invisible women</span> who are struggling with some form of substance abuse (illegal/prescriptive drugs, alcohol, abusive spouse,etc etc etc)... And the painful loss for the family and close friends.

Prized possession: Some of Whitney Houston's possessions are set to go under the hammer at an auction next month

Some Whitney Houston's most prized possessions are set to go under the hammer at an auction next month.

Items up for sale include a pair of earrings, a brown satin waistcoat and a black velvet dress she wore in the 1992 movie The Bodyguard.

Julien's Auctions boss Darren Julien has defended the decision to hold the sale - which will take place at the Hollywood Legends auction on March 31 - so shortly after the singer's death.

He told the Associated Press: 'It proves a point that these items, they're an investment. You buy items just like a stock. Buy at the right time and sell at the right time, and they just increase in value.'

Mr Julien went on to say the auction would be a celebration of Houston, who was found dead in the bathtub of her Beverly Hilton hotel suite a week ago.
He said: 'It's a celebration of her life. If you hide these things in fear that you're going to offend someone - her life is to be celebrated.

'These items are historic now that she passed. They become a part of history. They should be in museums. She's lived a life and had a career that nobody else has ever had.


'For people who are fans of Whitney Houston and never would have had a chance to meet her and never got to talk to her, these are items that literally touched a part of her life.

'They are a way to relate to her or be a part of her life without having known her.'

<span style="font-weight: bold">Meanwhile, Whitney's family have ensured the hotel room she died in has been meticulously stripped of any memorabilia to prevent anyone selling the items to profit out of her death.</span>

Houston, 48, was laid to rest yesterday next to the body of her father John Russell Houston Jr. - who died in 2003 - at the Fairview Cemetery in New Jersey.
