I did it! I did it!! It's done!!!

I have turned in all of my necessary petitions (plus enough extras), paperwork & forms, and the background check fee to the City Clerk's office, and I am awaiting the results of the background check - which I know I will pass, since I have no criminal record... I expect no problems getting on the ballot to run for City Council this spring.

My chosen slogan is: <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">Your issues. Your voice. Your choice. WitchyOoman</span></span>

Basically, I've been saying that my constituents' concerns and problems are what matters.
And, in the end, that's really what people care about - <span style="font-style: italic">their</span> problems.

The campaign is <span style="font-style: italic">only just beginning</span>... the period for collecting signed petitions (registered voters only) ends Monday at 4:00pm. Then the City has ten days in which to conduct the FBIs (full background investigations) on each candidate - all of us. Once this is accomplished, the City certifies each candidate who has passed as a bona fide candidate with access to the ballot. Then, the ballot placement (what line number on the ballot) is decided by blind drawing.

I <span style="font-style: italic">know</span> I have more than enough registered voters' signed petitions because I checked my petitions - before handing them in - against the same database (CD, available - in several different formats - to anyone for $5 at the Hall of Records in Newark) that the County and the City Clerks use. My mentor's family has lived here in Orange for over 100 years and they have been in politics here for about that long, too. A number of her ancestors were our former Mayors and more were our former City Councilmen. She herself is a former City Councilwoman and a former City Council President.

Now begins my fundraising events... I didn't want to do that before I accomplished collecting the unusually high number of petitions I needed this year's election. See, the number of petitions necessary depends upon the number of voters who turned out to vote in the last primary election. My luck, that was the Obama/Hillary Clinton election... when every soul in the city came out to vote for Obama! So I (and my opponents) needed an extraordinarily high number of petitions for this election. No one seems to recall in living memory anybody needing so many petitions to run for City Council before. Anyhow, I deemed it too much trouble to rise funds before I got on the ballot... election fund laws being so strict... and so I lined up a lot of my funding ahead of time and let it wait... so much of the people and corporations who are going to donate to my campaign are already pledged to do so, and I know how much - all I now need is to open the bank account (tomorrow or Friday) and start collecting it.
I am also going to use Fundrazr on FB for my friends, since I am running a grass-roots campaign: Every dollar helps! <span style="font-style: italic">All</span> of my RL friends have <span style="font-style: italic">one dollar</span> to help me win my election. One dollar at a time. It worked for Obama...

Thank-you notes... Mailings... Invitations... Fundraiser events... More thank-you notes... More mailings... Window and lawn signs... street money for election day (poll challengers, GOAV workers, rental shuttle buses to transport the ill, seniors, and handicapped to the polls, car + driver for me to get me all over the city as needed, etc)... It all takes m-o-n-e-y! (plus a <span style="font-style: italic">LOT</span> of organization!)

Thanks. I wanted to drive home the point that it's all about the voters - my constituents - and <span style="font-style: italic">their</span> issues &amp; problems... that I am <span style="font-style: italic">their</span> public servant.
