Suggestions on how best to end Racism?

Some suggest a colorblind society is best achieved by ignoring race?
I do not think we want a colorblind society as many S. American societies are already so and racism is even worse their but nobody speaks about it. Plus it kind of disingenuous to deny that I am black and you are ---------- fill in the blank.

What is your suggestion?

My suggestion is to promote diversity actively in all sectors of society, it is my opinion that diversity is a one of the best ways to end Racism

It will never end. Tribalism in its many forms, racism included, may be a genetic imperative. If that premise is true, and IMHO it is, neither social engineering or technological advances, as some have suggested here, will change that.

a while back there was a story in national geographic on how by 2050 something like 90%of the world population will be of mixed race...maybe that will dampen it down(or just change the nature of it).

Not as long as the races that are doing the mixing and the shades of children they produce vary. Do you think, for example, that the offspring of an Asian/Caucasian couple will of necessity treat the offspring of a Black/Indian couple as equals simply because they are mixed ?

I agree. Promoting and embracing diversity everywhere, and in every way possible, is the best start.

Besides - it <span style="font-style: italic">is</span> disingenuous to say franksterr isn't black... or &quot;I didn't notice that frankster was black&quot;... and Witchy isn't white... or &quot;I didn't notice that Witchy was white&quot;. Franksterr <span style="font-weight: bold">is</span> black and Witchy <span style="font-style: italic">is</span> white! But that doesn't mean that either franksterr or Witchy is better or lesser, more or less entitled, etc.; both are people - plain and simple, just the same.

You know that I'm running for City Council in a city with a primarily black (or African-diaspora) population. During my campaign, I've noticed one very interesting thing: A surprising number of people - black people - have told me and are telling me that they think it's &quot;high time that we have some diversity on our City Council&quot;. Now these people aren't saying this just to get me off of their doorsteps, because there are a few blacks (men, mostly senior men) who have told me blatantly that they would never vote for a white and to please get off of their property. So I seriously doubt that these other people who say they want to see more diversity are faking it to just get rid of me; all they'd have to do is close their doors if they didn't want to be so blatantly racist.

The interesting thing is that these people apparently <span style="font-style: italic">DO</span> want to see more diversity in our municipal government. (They signed my petitions so I could gain access to the ballot. They are donating money to my campaign. I have every reason to believe that they are going to vote for me.)

Now, granted, there is more than racial diversity to an election, and there are (hopefully) more reasons than that that these people are voting for me... I hope they agree with what I state in my platform that I want to do and see happen in the city. But, for <span style="font-style: italic">all</span> of these people - and I'm talking about a couple hundred residents - to <span style="font-style: italic">explicitly mention</span> the <span style="font-style: italic">need for more diversity</span> in the city, there must be <span style="font-style: italic">something</span> to it!

that why i suggest the nature might just change.

My ex-neighbour was a huge racist. He would hold Heritage Front (Google them) meetings in his house.

Both his daughters married non-white men. One married an Indian Muslim, the other married a Jamaican. Soon after he was blessed with grandchildren of mixed races.

He loved his grandkids to death but his overall views regarding race did not change. He would still use the &quot;N&quot; word without a second thought.

race in this context is all predicated on how far from &quot;white&quot; someone is. the very discussion itself lends life to the idea of &quot;race&quot;, as if to suggest there are significant differences between people of different skin colors that cant be accounted for by socio-political, geographic or class-based factors?

Even with no race to take into account, people would find another group to hate.
Whether its Christians vs. Muslims, Sunni vs. Shiite, Kenyan Kikuyus vs the Luo, or JLP vs. PNP there will always be something to start a war over.

The only way to end the inherent human ignorance is to provide education to everyone on the planet. But since the majority of the worlds population is uneducated or miseducated, people will go on hating whoever dem tek set pon.

good point, except that education simply allows people to exercise their hate in a more sophisticated manner.

I think that when people get broad exposure to other &quot;races,&quot; classes,and cultures they come to see that we all have more in common than they may have thought, which will hopefully decrease racism and discrimination.

Example: American students were skyping with students from Iran. Among the questions was &quot;Why are you trying to kill us? Why do you hate us?&quot; The students were able to reply that they didn't hate them and weren't trying to kill anyone, it was the governments, not the people.

Technology used for good and not evil can be a powerful thing.
