Hello, I'm from Brasil and I'll have the great pleasure to represent Jamaica in a college simulation of OAS ( organization of american states). The theme is about corruption and organized crime in american states. I would like to know the position of this country about this theme or just some facts that happened in Jamaica. Thanks!

Re: OAS
Welcome! I would love to go to Brazil on vacation one of these days. It seems like such a beautiful country.
To answer your questions:
Organized crime in Jamaica tends to be based on a loose coalition of gangs and is nothing like the mafia in the US which tends to be more centralized. For more on this you may want to use wikipedia as a starting point. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamaican_posse
As for corruption, at the political level it is rampant with government contracts often being offered to political supporters, friends and even family members. Efforts to stamp corruption out are being made by requiring all government contracts to go through an open bidding process and by the implementation of anti corruption measures and good governance methodologies through the office of the contractor general.

Wrong Board, wrong fora!
Go to Facebook and see if you can post to one of the News Services Wall.
Let see:
Jamaica Gleaner
Jamaica Observer
TVJ
CVM
or a political party such as the
NDM
The trick is to find an active site where Jamaicans based in Jamaica are discussing politics.
