Re: Should Usain Bolt be on the 2012 TIME 100 list?
Simpson Miller
Age: 66
Occupation: Jamaican Prime Minister
Simpson-Miller just began her second stint in six years as Jamaica's PM, and she's kicking off the country's 50th anniversary of independence by calling for the island to sever ties with the British monarchy.
More impressive, however, is that she did something few thought possible in one of the world's most homophobic nations: she called for full civil rights for gays and lesbians. One has to understand Jamaica's violently antihomosexual history to appreciate her courage, which could resonate throughout the region if she's successful.
dem naa come offa dat ehhh???

She said review?
Any review tek place yet?
Besides the Buggery Law does not outlaw Homosexuals.
The Buggery Law makes a certain kind of sexual act illegal, has nothing to do with whether Jamaica is homophobic or not.
The profile is not factual.

WOMAN ON TOP: PM Portia Simpson-Miller is a 2012 TIME 100 honoree
Describing her as the “embodiment of perseverance and strength,” TIME magazine has included Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller in its just-released list of the world’s most influential people, the TIME 100.
Simpson-Miller’s citation was penned by Yvette D. Clarke, a Congresswoman for New York’s 11th District,

Portia is on the list because she and her party won the Dec 2011 election. She did not win because of any novel vision or plan that she outlined for the country nor has she demonstrated exemplary leadership in her first 100 days. Just like in her first tenure as PM she has quickly gone silent. You see her for the occasional photo op when dignitaries are to be met and babies to be kissed. Golding screwed up so bad with Mannat/Dudus all Portia had to do was stand and say I'm not Bruce Golding to win an election that was called too soon - for which Andrew Holness and JLP heads like Karl Samuda must take the blame for.
The citation from Yvette Clarke made me laugh..."“She will have a profound impact as she strives to be a transformational figure in Jamaica. While she has worked for many years as a public servant representing all Jamaicans, there is a great sense that her leadership will expand far beyond her island nation.”
So if she has not yet transformed her South West St Andrew constituency where she has been MP for decades what makes Yvette think she can do much better for the country and have a worldwide impact? Just wondering aloud...
