Mary J. Blige sings about chicken for Burger King

R&amp;B superstar Mary J. Blige might rue the day she agreed to sing about Burger King's “crispy chicken” snack wrap with “three cheeses.”

<span style="font-weight: bold">That’s because her new commercial for the fast-food chain, which is revamping its menu, has been met with some backlash.</span> (The commercial also appears to be missing from Burger King's YouTube channel.)

In the recently released clip, the nine-time Grammy winner can be seen sporting a short wig, leather jacket and shades, rocking to the beat of her own song, “Don’t Mind,” off her latest album “My Life II...The Journey Continues.”

But she’s altered the lyrics to reflect her pitchwoman duties, singing about “crispy chicken, fresh lettuce, three cheeses, ranch dressing, wrapped up in a tasty flour tortilla.”

The media's taken notice of the 30-second spot, and so have fans. Many have taken to social media sites to express their surprise (and dismay) that someone with so much clout would agree to do such a thing -<span style="font-weight: bold"> especially peddling chicken, which some say feeds into a stereotype.</span>

But Mary’s not the only one on this celebrity gravy train: Salma Hayek, David Beckham and Jay Leno are all featured in new Burger King commercials, and Sofia Vergara and Steven Tyler are expected to do spots as well.

Burger King's Senior Vice President of North America Marketing, Alex Macedo, told AdAge that the commercials were created to grab attention to the company's menu expansion, and well, this one has, at least.

&quot;The big challenge is how do you really grab people's attention?&quot; Macedo said. &quot;And most of all, how do you get them to taste the product? We chose celebrities to get people's attention faster and to show the diversity that we have with our brand.&quot;

i remember the old school when artists were reluctant to whore themselves to commercialism...those days are over;

nothing is off limits these days...

To many folks in the USA Burger King and other Fast Food places are actual locations where they get their evening meals.
I don't see a thing wrong with making and ad if you believe in the product or even just for the loot.
For one thing Mary J. Blige is a business, she has to promote, remain in the eyes of her fan and renew her fan base constantly. We can all say what we want to but when its time to pay the light-bill it is another taak!

I can't wrong her fi dat in that sense but it's the stereotype they have in America about black people and chicken that I hear some fans are upset about. Burger king and Mary have apologized. They really made a big thing out of it

People need to lighten up. I happen to like fried chicken and if I'm going fast food will go KFC over McDonalds any day. So what if black people generally prefer fried chicken to a slab of beef? As a Jamaican I also like to chow down on a beef patty, curried and jerked chicken, oxtail and rice and peas. So what if people assume that all Jamaicans eat like that?

The real issue is these entertainers who parade themselves as brands but want to be taken seriously as artists. So everybody now have clothing, perfume and cologne lines and going corporate and it is no longer about the music. Some even write music around the companies they associate with and cross promote music and the brand. I sort of understand because the music biz has changed dramatically. Music is just not selling like it used to and so these entertainers have to find a way to eat a bread. But something about it rubs me the wrong way. Maybe if the music business got back to its roots some of the lost sales over the last decade would come back but there is something about the way the music is right now that is not very authentic.

I think you misunderstood a little when I said the light bill. The commercial for Burger King may or may not pay her a big chunk of loot but the potential for acquiring new fans, reconnecting with some fans and the possibility of sponsorships and other deals further down the roads may have been the driving force.

In any case many Public Figure do not make their own decisions in a vacuum many have trusted Agents and Advisers that can sign off on these calls and this might be what happened in this case.
The backlash may have cause her to really think about it in a more personal way.

Truthfully if I ate meat I would eat fry chicken every day except on Sundays I would eat Fish and Steam Chicken.
