never read the book or saw the movie but just started watching the movie...

it's just shocking how prophetic this film was...seems he was on to something even back then...

"slavery is freedom"
"war is peace"
"ignorance is strength"

noteworthy is the rise in the surveilance state...

this was a key theme in 1984...
we are there now...cameras & smart scanners...

the most ironic part is that most of it is now voluntary-- gps in smart phones & vehicles;
24-hour location knowledge- facebook, etc...

the possible uses for these things in the wrong hands is chilling

Read the book, never saw the movie. I think I had to read it in high school....but many times I think of passages in that book....big brother surely is watching in 2012.

while animal farm and 1984 is seen as leftist - "Atlas shrugged" is mostly thought of as ultra right wing....check it out when you have time.

When it comes to prophetic books Jules Verne let me appreciate the place of fiction in science....ever read the magazine "Omni" it is now out of print well it used to have a caption that read something like this and it was so true - "Fact is a place fiction has already been".
Books like the "Wreck of the Titan" by Morgan Robertson which predicted the Titanic sinking has led me to question the role Myth fiction and fantasy and our concept of time as it relates to future events.
Shelly, Kipling and Wells all seem to have tap into something that allowed them to describe what the future would resemble, I once read a book by Taylor Cadwell (I think) in which one of the characters said " All fiction is but future memory" could that be just another term for self-fulfilling prophecy as more and more people read a novel it adds weight to it becoming reality in some sort or way or fashion - that thought lends credence to the idea that all time is NOW....NO past No future just the everlasting PRESENT - the only true Gift of Life.
