Jamaican folks are saying, Yeah Man [meaning yeah man].
The visitor local/foreign hears, Yeah Mon [yet overstands yeah man].
There is, zero confusion.

The original bone of contention was the stereotypical notion that Jamaican laze around, drink copious amounts of Red Stripe (later to become weed) and seh Yeah Mon to everything.

You strike a very discordant theme. In one argument you are saying Potois is dynamic and the very next breath you claim. <span style="font-weight: bold">Mon could never have entered the language and if it did, its entry could only have been through men who prostitute themselves on the beach?</span>
However it has entered, its here......

but it did...i fi one have always had a problem wid peeps greeting me wid 'mon' wen dem realise di I is a yaadie...i have neva said 'mon' in mi life....i neva fail to correct them...i positively bringle at it...bringle mi a tell u....n if dem continue to pronounce it dat way to mi, i cut awf di interaction ...cause if u naw lissen y r we tawking...said way in alll my years abroad i have neva found the need to affect any American accent...i speak English n if is a matter of speed i wi slow down..but i have heard no reason to affect wat i would tink is an American accent as we still hear on Jamaican radio n tv ....it is silly wen u tink of the diverse regional accents of the US for a Jcan to 'twang' an seh is an &quot;American&quot; accent n using said twang now makes him/her more understandable..feh...dat is akin to shouting at a one who does not speak English and tink dat di raised voice gwine mek u di shouter bi-lingual ...double feh

I have never felt the need to correct anyone expressing themselves in Jamaican (Whether Jamaicans, tourists who have visited Jamaica or foreigners who have never set foot in Jamaica).

I think most persons use Jamaican/Potois in an affectionate manner.
Since this is a very oral and <span style="font-style: italic">(as some admit),</span> dynamic language, there is little reason for I to be a Language and Culture Police, especially if the speaker and I are on the same wavelength.

As for twanging. Twanging use to hold a very honoured place in Jamaican Culture. It was well overstood that when you step up inna life you acquire some trappings....twanging was not a bad attribute, especially if one had left the Rock for a day or so.

It is very natural for humans to try to communicate in what they think might be style that the their audience might appreciate. It could be for projection as when speaking to you people or out of respect when dealing with foreigners.

Typically one would find that the language and culture in the travel areas are at some variance with the other parts of the Island. Just as Rural-Speak and culture is different from town.
