It's the little things that count and that has been made clearer with the addition of two very important services to the range that already exists for the athletes.
The Wyndham Gardens (one of the team hotels) has dedicated a phone line specifically for the athletes to receive calls from their parents and loved ones. The DIRECT DIAL to the students will allow parents to get to them quickly, and avoid being tied up with general number.
"We want to ensure that our athletes have very little to worry about when they are here," said CFO Lance Clarke. "We work closely with the hotel to ensure that the athletes and parents are comfortable. It is still, however, a growing effort, even at this stage."
This year Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB) has had to shuttle most of the athletes from New York as most teams flew into JFK to cut cost. The team of Dollar Van drivers were at the ready, even making midnight runs, while restaurants packed hundreds of dinners in anticipation of their arrival.
Diaspora organisation, Coalition for Jamaica, has helped significantly in providing snack items, for the TJB hospitality room.
Andrew Batchelor, founder of the organisation, said: "As Jamaicans it is our utmost responsibility to uphold and demonstrate the positive sides of our people and our culture and as a group we strive to show the level of our abilities worldwide: and will carry this responsibility proudly. We are here to make a difference."
TJB's outreach to the community and underlying public relations campaign has really started to yield results. "Our message is getting out to the community which is a good thing," according to TJB's PR officer, Andrea Daley. "There is a better understanding of what we do and as such people are stepping up to help. We want to thank the restaurants in New York and Philadelphia that provided food for the athletes on Wednesday: Genesis1, Henrika's, The Door, Silver Krust, Ron's Caribbean Cuisine, Calabash, K&G's and Morgan's."
