Well not really but all the recent discussions got me thinking. Do you think people would object if Usain Bolt and Leah Tavares-Finson got together? They may be a match in terms of the recent antics of both.
Seriously why are you so obsessed with the colour/race business? Were you born in Jamaica, did you grow up there, or did you grow up abroad? I honestly find that home grown Jamaicans obsess over this less than African Americans or Jamaicans who spend a lot of time abroad. I think Jamaicans would be a-ok with Usain/Leah,there would be less fuss that Usain/Lubica.

Born in Jamaica, raised abroad.
Really silly question don't you think in view of this? Any Black Jamaican raised overseas who has faced racism and isn't obsesses with race is either in denial or seriously delusional. I have seen many in that category have a RUDE awakening. It's like crossing the street blindfolded and figuring no car will lick you dung.

This comment is also just plain silly as well as highly insensitive don't you think? If you are in the majority why would you be obsessed. In spite of this, a lot of people at home and abroad didn't approve of the Lubica/Usain pairing.

Anyway, besides your answer starting off in a really vapid way, thank you for responding to my actual question. I agree. In fact, I don't there would be any fuss if he hooked up with Leah Tavares-Finson. My point is, the concern about Lubica wasn't just racial.
I hope it didn't come off like I was dissing your question. Just wanted to know where you were coming from. Home grown Jamaican here so we are not very tactful. Having come to the US as an adult I do get that some black people raised here are more sensitized to the race issue. I have seen instances where African Americans have cried racism where I saw other logical and obvious, at least to me, explanations for the alleged racist behaviour.
We can agree to disagree about Usain/Lubica but I think the 'concern' about Lubica was that she was from 'foreign'. Usain is the biggest personality in Jamaica. Local girls felt like they were not good enough and being dissed for Usain to bypass them for a 'foreigner'.
Yeah it did come off that way but no problem...when things are written a lot of the meaning is lost. There have been discussions about people objecting to Usain's choices (and I was one of the people objecting) and also one about whether or not people objected to Bob Marley and Cindy because of colour. I thought that pairing him with Leah would generate an interesting discussion.

In that case it was that she was White and a foreigner. I don't think people would have objected to a so-called White Jamaican to the same degree especially if she was rootsy like Leah.
Now I think of Leah's connections with people like dogpaw. Apparently she was (is?) going to school in Canada. I would not be pleased if my son brought her home due to these connections.

I think that is the difference between a home grown Yawdie and one raised abroad. We have experienced racism so many times that we are going to spot it a lot earlier. For the record, a friend of mine who is Asian-Canadian and was raised in a very racist small town, has repeatedly given me feedback that a lot of incidents are going over my head and I am being blind sided left right and centre.
His radar is finely tuned and he spots things long before I do.
