Dis gwine be contraversial, but Bob Marley was the Shaggy and Sean Paul of his day. His music wasn't really Jamaican fully, it was crossover farrinised reggae. I heard him wasn even dat big in JA for a long time till him really start bus a farrin.

He was the sthe shaggy of his day.. I disagree with u about being big in Jamaica... Jamaica was more cosmopoltian listeners than the diaspora.. We were more sophisticated listeners... look at the number ones he had on the chart before his death.. all his albums sold well in Jamaica... When I went to the UK I was surprised how low regards Jamaicans had for him... He did get very regular air play... But then Christians were against him for his rasta beleif.... and it always still surprises me when people who profess christianity claim to appriciate his music.....they didnt then so why only after his death ?????


I was in Columbia a guy mentioned to me that he had heard on the BBC world service that Bob had died....might have been two days after his death...

Times have changed. There are still some Bob songs I refuse to listen to.

I almost cringe when a reggae artist will shout out &quot;Jah&quot; and an audience full of Christians will say &quot;Rastafari&quot;. I guess they didn't realise they just accepted a new

I was working at a hospital in Harlem. My friend, a nurse at Sloan Kettering called and told me he had died and she was shocked because it was rumored that he was going to be transferred to Sloan Kettering for treatment. We did not know he was that sick and for those of a certain &quot;class&quot; Bob Marley was not loved by them - no sah it is not like now where all and sundry a kill them self over Marley - that was not the case in those days.

I just read some tings. It seem like Bob knew he had cancer from 77 and refused to amputate his toe citing rasta beliefs.

oh this is new. because all the theories state a carcinogen being put on a nail in a boot that jook-up bob marley toe. You are now suggesting direct murder.

If that is the case, I think you are wrong. Bob died in 81, after the elections had occured and seaga was in power. At that point, CIA had no motive to kill marley. He wasn't even liked by black americans. Now the cancer story, if true, i can buy that one.
