Moses Davis more popularly known as Beenie Man returned to the island on Monday after performing at shows in The Netherlands and in Dubai in the Middle East over the past week.

He took time out to let us know that quote “I never apologized. Jamaican people need to be more literate about life. Five years ago, we stop sing certain songs, and start focus more on dancehall to make it what it is today. I said that they (the gays) should leave us alone, don’t have us up for what we said when were young, that happened 20 years ago, nobody is the same person they were 20 years ago” end quote.

He added “Everybody grow up, but I guess ah August mi born, so mi have to bear the burden fi everybody else. Ah me plant the oak tree that dem use crucify Jesus Christ, and my cow dem kill and make the leather that dem use and beat Him for 13 hours, and ah my hardware dem tek the hammer that dem use and nail up him hand dem, so mi ah go bear the burden dem fi everyone then, ok then.

He explained further that “Look here, I sell music, I do this to send all my youths to school and my grand-daughter because I am a grandfather now. I have to provide for my family. I tell these people that we, as dancehall artistes, don’t hate people, because of what they want to say or do. We don't practise hate, we don't want to kill gay people, we love all members of the human race, regardless of their religion, creed, race or sexual orientation.&quot;

for reggae music, the mention or &quot;worship&quot; of selassie is a much bigger problem than the actual devil-worship that currently dominates the music...by devil worship i am referring to the barrage of tunes about mindless sex &amp; mindless killing of your own people &amp; worship of money/greed;

Since the release of a video with Grammy winning artiste Beenie Man's video statement to the gay community, many artistes have also voiced their opinions on the matter.

Bounty Killer, leader of the Alliance and Beenie Man's long-standing nemesis, recently took to Twitter to bash Beenie Man. Not known to hold back words, Bounty Killer unleashed a slew of tweets directed at the 'King of the Dancehall'.

In one of his cleaner tweets, <span style="font-weight: bold">Killer stated:

&quot;Your view is your view, every one have the right to their opinion. Giving an apology simple mean you stoop to their level and have second thoughts of your opinion, so simply you never believe in your opinion from first.&quot;</span>

Producer Skatta Burrell, however, applauded Beenie Man on his apology. Speaking with THE STAR, Skatta said that all judgement should be left to God.

&quot;Instead of dancehall uniting, we have allowed it to progress to the point where the gay society are able to target our shows and venues and are successful in preventing us from performing and earning a living. If Beenie Man gets up and apologises then nothing is wrong. We are hypocrites, because even though we say we are a homophobic society, Jamaica is in the top 10 Caribbean countries with the most gays. We have bigger issues than condemning Beenie Man,&quot; Skatta told THE STAR.

Artiste Ce'Cile also sided with Beenie Man and his apology to the gays. In some of her tweets she said:

When asked what he thought about Beenie Man's video statement, Tony Rebel said that he did not think about it. However, he went on to say that entertainers must be careful of the lyrics they put out so that it does not come back to haunt them.

Tony Rebel nuh haffi apologise to dem and me straight. Him must know wha him a do why him need fi apologise. Yet another argument I made years ago.
The more you tek it upon your head to fight certain things is the more you promoting it.
If you don't like gays, don't sleep with them, don't listen to them, don't promote them.....Take care of you own business.

The irony about this whole issue:
Beenie Man might have to end up seeking refuge in another country for simply saying every man and woman should decide his/her own destiny <span style="font-style: italic">(Proving just how homophobic Jamaica has become!)</span>.

frankly i found the 'dancehall unifying' statement ludicrous..homophobia is the least of wat dat genre's lyrics has dealt wid...dem misogynistic lyrics has been more problematic fi Jcan society dat dem homophobia...we have a whole generation of male and female skettels courtesy of dancehall n its proponents...n di supposed autical artists stood back n said nutten n did nutten..all was holding dem corners, securing dem own dollars...so F E H on all late statements...
