Female arms dealer gets 10yrs- said to have sold weapons to Jamaican gang
A female firearms dealer in the US who is believed to have sold guns to members of a Jamaican gang has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
50 year old Melissa Towana Wood was also sentenced on Tuesday to three years of supervised release in Atlanta's federal court.
Wood, who is originally from New York, came to the attention of investigators when they learned that she may have been selling weapons to the Jamaican gang members.
According to court documents, during the course of the one month undercover investigation that followed, Ms. Wood sold 14 firearms to a confidential informant who was working with federal agents.
Wood also told the informant she had access to many more guns and hand grenades.
She pleaded guilty in February to dealing in firearms without a license and soliciting a murder-for-hire.
