Anyone seen this show? Seems like Florida is the best place to rent or purchase a home right now.

Really? In what part of Europe or the UK are housing rental and purchase prices most reasonable?

They had Trinidad last week on the show and it was also very expensive.

Uk housing market is down 20 % imho but it is inflated. Greece next month look for bargins as the economy implodes. Spain and Portugal. Italy and France they are protected by the difficulty to get mortages compared to the Us and UK. Growth country is going to be Norway. get a place in Hammerfest u probablh get returns on rent of 20 % per annum.

have you ever been to Paris ? everything is expensive including food. then again so are many major cities worldwide. Paris just happens to be up there, along with London and NYC.

in nyc most landlords won't rent you something that is more than 40 times your weekly salary.

landlords nuh want people inna dem house dat cannot afford it.

Yeah that's the one. He was getting a monthly allowance of US$4300 and it could barely get him anything.

Yes I have been to Paris. A bottle of water (small bottle) at the airport was 5 Euros. Hot chocolate at the Lourvre, same story 5 Euros. Now the value of the currency vis-a-vis the Canadian dollar has declined since then...or I should say the value of the Canadian $ has climbed. The same bottle of water would cost about $1.50 in Toronto so it's still ridiculously more expensive.

My questions is just how high do people's salaries have to be to afford to live in some of these places.

I thought Toronto was ridiculous with apartments downtown going for $1500 but you can get a 3 bedroom for less than that if you go to the suburbs but some of these cities really take the cake. The rule of thumb ere is 25 - 35% of your salary for rent.

Buying a house is a different story. I watch Love it or List it and people are paying 500,000 - 750,000 to buy a house in Toronto and its nothing much. Did you see the one yesterday with the Chinese lady who had a budget of about 1,000,000 to buy a house and it was a dump and in bad repair. I can't recall what city that was.

Gen. seems that we have the same taste in TV. I guess I should start to hang out in the home and gardening section of the board.

yes saw that on with the chinese lady. she is a lawyer so she has more money than what she budgeted for. i think that was also Paris. she has 2 children ???

well one can always find a place in one of the arrondissements far outside the city centre of Paris, that might be cheaper

How much cheaper? There was one way out for $3200 which is still a LOT of money. In what part of Paris was the dump that the Chinese lady with the 2 kids that cost over $1,000.000 located? I couldn't believe how small two of the properties were since they were about $1,000,000. One was beautifully decorated but way too small for her family.

Seems like housing prices are much more reasonable in Turkey. They have had 2 episodes and the families have been able to get gorgeous properties for around US$200,000.

Walhalla have you ever been to Turkey? I won a 2 night's stay at a hotel in Turkey and I must use it before the end of the year.
