Man charged with sexual abuse of 3 children
As the country continues to reel from an increase in reports of sexual abuse against children, another accused man has been charged.
Investigators attached to the May Pen arm of the Centre for Sexual Offences and Child Abuse, CISOCA Tuesday evening slapped a raft of charges against a Clarendon man.
Charges have been laid against the 38 year old man after he was accused of sexually assaulting three girls in the parish.
The children are ages 8, 9 and 10 and are all from the same community.
The man, whose name is being withheld, is charged with <span style="font-weight: bold">several counts of rape, buggery, sexual touching and sexual grooming. </span> He was arrested on May 16.
RJR News understands that the case, which has since gained national attention, has also taken on a dramatic twist after the mother of the nine year old child was also arrested.
CISOCA says she has been arrested pending further investigations.
Residents of the man's community have expressed shock at news of the allegations against him.
The residents say the man, who has lived in the community all his adult life, was never viewed as a child molester.
According to them <span style="font-weight: bold">he was considered a father to the community's numerous children, </span>and was also considered a friend of the family of at least one of the children he's accused of assaulting.
Earlier this month, the Office of the Children's Registry reported that there has been a yearly increase in the number of cases of sexual abuse reported to the agency since its 2007 establishment.
The agency said between <span style="font-weight: bold">2007 and 2011 it received over <span style="font-style: italic">11 thousand reports </span>of sexual abuse against children</span>.
