US $15million increase in remittance inflows
Data from the Central Bank show a 15 million US dollar increase in net remittance inflows to Jamaica during the first quarter of the year.
Between January and March remittances totalled 436-point-7 million US dollars up from 421 million US during the corresponding period last year.
This resulted from higher gross inflows though partially offset by an upturn in remittance outflows.
The Central Bank says the increase in remittance inflows occurred against the backdrop of improving macro-economic conditions in source economies.
It has forecast that the increase in remittance flows will continue as those countries continue to recover from the global economic downturn.
