Kelvin Grant, a disc jockey of Barrett Town in St James, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding against the complainant Charmaine Anderson, who was not present in court.
"We already talked it over and she (Anderson) decided to put it off," Grant told Resident Magistrate Sheron Barnes on Thursday.
"It never put off because you are here. But I want to know why you boxed the lady," said RM Barnes.
"She's telling people that I 'go down low'," answered Grant, prompting laughter from the court.
"You heard that she said that to someone?" the RM enquired.
"Yes, because the girls out there at the club told me," replied Grant, who denied engaging in oral sex.
"What am I to do with you now?" asked RM Barnes.
"Send me home," answered Grant, again prompting laughter from the courtroom.
"Send you home and is the next side of the face you box?" the RM asked.
"All right, Mr Grant, the sentence of the court is six months at hard labour suspended for one year. I want to make sure you don't do it again. You don't settle your differences by boxing people," the RM concluded.
The court was told that about 4:45 a.m on May 26, Anderson was standing outside a nightclub in Long Bay, St James, where both she and Grant were employed. Grant walked up to her and slapped her on the right side of her face.
A squabble ensued between the two, and Anderson subsequently realised that she was bleeding where Grant had hit her. A report was made to the Barrett Town Police Station, and Grant was arrested and charged.
