Blakkie, thanks for the contribution to the debate/discussion re - &quot;The New Jim Crow&quot;
The author of this book, Michelle Alexander should be commended for writing it and putting it &quot;out there&quot; for all who are interested to learn the facts.. As I have stated here before, it's no accident that Black People and others of colour have been getting &quot;shafted&quot; ever since they were brought to the Americas against their will.. The book itself seems to deal with many of the problems that were already out there, and are well known by those who are pre-disposed to the realities of the &quot;Prison and Justice system.

We the older folks should take it unto ourselves to promote this book, get it into the hands of of our young people so that they can avoid the traps, the pitfalls and obstacles that are strategically placed in their paths.. I think I may get miself a copy..

solutions includes more suspended sentences, more community service, decriminalize possession of small amounts of drugs, put them in rehab, more job training.. of course the jail owners will see a nosedive in profits, and the US is all about $$$
