Mr Vegas hits out against the Jamaica 50 official song!

No disrespect to the producers or artists on this 50th anniversary song, but if this is the music that best represent our 50yrs of independence, then I need to fall back to sleep & don't wake up.

I have never been approached to be apart of any project that represent Jamaica, because those slots are reserved for the uptown artists and their friends, not necessary for the artists who works hard, and is relevant outside of Jamaica.




I sent &quot;Sweet Jamaica&quot; Feat Shaggy &amp; Josey Wales to the Jamaica Tourist Board &amp; they said its not doing enough, I must try again when it start doing better, I hope this POP 50th Anniversary song is what you were looking for.

Am not saying that this (SWEET JAMAICA) should be THE song for our 50th anniversary, but I think this is what Jamaica is about! You can't hide the truth from the people, it should be no bias or favoritism involve with our presentation, because we are all Jamaicans.









Artists &amp; people agree with what I am saying, but dem fraid to speak out! Well REBEL VEGAS huh fraid fi talk.

Jamaica 50 Secretariat on the issue of “A Jamaica 50 song”


The Jamaica 50 Secretariat has stated that does not intend to, nor did it choose, select or designate an official or national Jamaica 50 song.

The statement adds that “the Secretariat does not intend to, nor did it choose, select or designate an official or national Jamaica 50 song…..Many of these songs have already been in the public domain and others have been endorsed by the Secretariat and were released for airplay and for the enjoyment of the public.”

The Secretariat’s position was reportedly communicated to Opposition Spokesperson on Culture Olivia Babsy Grange in a recent meeting involving her and the Culture Minister Lisa Hanna.

At that time Ms. Grange was reportedly advised that several songs including “Fly the Flag” produced by Michael Bennett, would be designated as &quot;proudly celebrating Jamaica 50&quot; as a part of the celebrations to embrace an all inclusive approach to Jamaica’s rich musical heritage.

‘The Mission’ theme song was released last Friday

The Secretariat states its aware that the “synchronized national airplay” could have created some misunderstanding in the minds of members of the public.

It notes that any such misunderstanding is regretted.

The Jamaica 50 Secretariat and the Ministry of Youth and Culture are also mindful that the annual Jamaica Festival Song Competition, the traditional and time-honoured vehicle for choosing a song to celebrate the country's Independence each year, has not yet been completed.

They expect that the Festival Competition will itself produce an array of celebratory songs to augment authentic musical tributes to Jamaica 50.

They are inviting all Jamaicans to play and enjoy the appropriate song or songs of their choice.

A reggae or mento song would have been better.I don't like either of them.

And what happened to our sweet and innocent Cherine. Why has she gone and sexed herself up?



I liked her in that movie with Kymani Marley.

Is funny, the artiste who's career was made by so-called &quot;uptown artistes&quot; complains about favouritism towards said &quot;uptown artistes.&quot;

He then goes onto separate middle class from uptown saying &quot;artistes from a middle class and lower class background are being neglected at the expense of the uptown artistes&quot;. Last time I checked, middle class live in uptown.

And who exactly on that song is uptown?
Is assassin, Beres, Tifa, Taurus considered uptown?

It seems like the artistes he must be mad about are Gongzila and maybe Tessanne?

To me, this this is beginning to seem like Vegas has skin issues. Is he mad that two-non dark people are on the song? Or is he just mad because he is not on the song?


Really, if yu a fling wud, nuh beat roun i bush.
