Body buried at wrong funeral - Service cancelled after mourners discover mistake
Well-wishers and relatives who were in attendance at the funeral service for an elderly woman on the weekend were left in shock after news broke that the deceased was already buried.
Information reaching THE WEEKENDSTAR is that a packed church in Glengoffe, St Catherine, on Saturday, was quickly emptied after news broke that they were waiting in vain.
THE WEEKEND STAR understands that sometime in the afternoon, while relatives and well-wishers were waiting for the funeral to begin, family members were informed by the funeral home that the body could not be found.
In addition, it's reported that the family was told that the relative's body was buried some three weeks back in Manchester.
THE WEEKEND STAR also understands that the family was also told that the funeral home will not be able to retrieve the body in question due to how long it had been buried.
"Di dead woman daughter cried because the funeral home told her that dem nah go get di body again because a three weeks now dem bury her a Manchester," a resident in the community said.
According to another resident, "Everybody did shock and astonished and just had to go turn back. This is really a mystery because how is it when di next old woman was buried no one picked up that something was wrong. I guess di two women dem mixing up really look alike. Right now di family have a empty grave".
Meanwhile, one of the daughters of the deceased, who was reluctant to speak in detail about the matter, said it was just an error as her mother was identified by another family.
"Everybody can make mistake but the next family identified the wrong body and we are working it out," the daughter said briefly.
The Glengoffe police confirmed that they are aware of the situation but say no official report had been made to them up to the time when they were contacted by THE weekend STAR.
