Re: Mali-Islamist rebels destroy Timbuktu historical
Have u noted the comments below the u tube link...
I been following the story for a while... I know it is about destrusttion of monuments but it also about destruction of culture...Over the centuries we have let the libraries and books of Timbuktu and Chinguetti degrade... The appalling thing is that there may be ancient text of both Islamic, African, Greek, European that could have been saved...
I know the moment I began supporting the US against the Taliban in Afghanistan.. It was the moment they blew up the two Buddha statues...Both these destructions belittle my humanity... ( A personal moment I went into the Byzantine church at Leptis Magna and there is this amazing frieze that was defaced by the invading islamic army in the 3rd centuary it is embarrassing, the same thing happened on monuments in Egypt.. where the Christians also destroyed monuments, including Muts giant penis in Karnak....)
Mali is an interesting position strategically from an African perspective....landlock surrounded by six states, a failed Mali is almost as dangerous as a failed DRC....

Religious fanaticism a very dangerous force on earth..I smell a rat though--- and cant help but see this as part of a greater African strategy by the hidden hand...Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, now Mali...aside from the other conflicts
