He was a former minister who did the unthinkable in the UK toted as a future conservative leader, seen as thatchers replacement... He went and mentioned the SAS in party conference in a jingoistic speech and his career was over, ... He then shifted from the right to the left of the Tory party.....
He also got destroyed because he had a gay fling when at university.....
But he does a very good political program on TV, his other moderator use to be Diane Abbot (the black MP) and the two of them have a serious sexual chemistry...... He does some good programs like this...Comment

I saw Portillo in a program where he lived with a working (or middle) class family for a month or so. He impressed me favourably in that.
By the way, what's the big deal about "SAS"?Comment

A close friend of mine is of Moorish Iberian ancestry and he gave a very interesting discussion on the role of Islam in Spain and how his ancestors flourished during the time Al-Andulus ruled what is now considered as Andalusia region of Spain. My thoughts of Spain is how singular the country is in its ethnicity, despite seeing people from different countries of African continent and east Asia living there as residents. I listened to Michael Portillo and of the assumption that he sees it as a diverse country... I just do not and I doubt there will ever be a mosque in Catholic Spain, despite the country's rich Al-Andulus history.
