Surya's almost 40 now. WOW time flies.
I like her but I couldn't give her props for her skating. She had awesome power and was very strong but she wasn't graceful or easy to watch on the ice.

Aye sah - bwoy unnu no easy enu -- you got that one straight from the horses mouth he couldn't have said it better. Him soon comment bout the hair. Personally I don't think anything is wrong with her hair. There is only so much a black gymnast can do when competing over a period of time. What else could she have done with it otherwise from putting in braids and then the hair police would have locked her up. As to the endorsement, good luck with that like they used to say in JA you live in Hope and die in Constant Spring.Comment

the mom u mean? yes. i would hope i could be that kind of mom if put in that position. able to hide my own doubts and breaking heart, and talk to my kid in a way that made her not feel like she had been abandoned by me. it would have been a deep culture shock for Gabby to go so far away to a white family, and also to be home schooled, which i guess means her social life was very limited. her home sickness and desire to return home is totally understandable, and that her mother talked to her about staying and then left her - dang, all i can say is respect to them both.Comment

one of the journalists had mentioned that she and her siblings do not have a great relationship either.
being that she lived away from them for that amount of time
i hope they can all overcome that in the end
but no, I don't even have to think about it, that is not something I as a mother could have done.

I am so happy for her 1st olympics, 16 years old go on to get 2 olympic gold medals and make the Russian silver medalist cry for the all around ... it doesnt get much better ... she has picked up where Dominique Dawes left off and will go far ... she really is a flying squirrel.

Can you imagine what was going through mom's mind when all that stuff about Sandusky was blowing up???? She prolly won't ever admit it, but I bet she second guessed her every decision and grilled her daughter about every living thing, just to get some semblance of peace of mind...
That was definitely a journey of faith on mom's part. Props to her!

Her mother knew Gaby was going to be great hence the reason she left her.
Congrats Gaby! Well done. and I doan see anything wrong wid ar hair except dat it perm.. All the other gymnasts wore their hair in the same styleIf you don't fight for what you deserve, you deserve what you get.
