Wisconsin - Mass Shooting at Sikh Temple

Several people have been shot after a gunman opened fire on the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin, Patch reported.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning in Oak Creek.

According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, witnesses say that as many as 30 people may have been shot.

The AP confirms the incident.

Witnesses told WTMJ that the suspect oped fire inside the temple. Police have not released any information about the suspected shooter and no deaths have been confirmed by authorities.

WISN reports that there are still people inside the temple in what may be a hostage situation. A witness told the Journal-Sentinel some of the reported hostages may be children.

According to WTMJ, no shooter has been taken into custody yet.

Wisconsin neighborhood evacuated in followup to Sikh temple shooting

WISN news in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is reporting that a neighborhood has been evacuated in connection with this morning’s mass shooting at a Sikh Temple in Oak Creek.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, “Shortly after 5 p.m., neighbors said a team of law enforcement officers, including from the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, had entered a home in Cudahy. Authorities have blocked off several streets surrounding the house.”

The WISN reporters state that there is a “huge police presence” surrounding the duplex in the Cudahy neighborhood and that about 200 residents have been told to leave.

7.00pm: We're going to wrap up our live blog coverage of the shooting at the Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. We have just published an updated news item here. Here's a summary of where things stand:

• A gunman killed six victims and wounded three, including a police officer, at the temple before being shot dead by a second police officer. The three wounded were being treated at hospital and were expected to survive.

• Authorities were at the scene of a home in the Milwaukee area believed to be connected with the shooter.

• The gunman was described by a man who spoke to eye witnesses as white, in his 30s, &quot;a little heavy,&quot; wearing blue pants and a white shirt. He is believed to have acted alone. Police said &quot;weapons&quot; were recovered inside the temple but had no further information.

• A man at the temple told local news station WISN that two children saw the suspect shoot two people exiting a taxi outside the temple. The children, who were unharmed, then ran inside to warn congregants about the shooter.

• The Sikh Coalition noted an impulse to assume the act was a hate crime. Sikhs have regularly been singled out for hate crime attacks since 9/11.

So they say the guy is a white supremacist and the FBI is labeling it domestic terrorism...

I don't know the story here but I know some Sikhs got targeted after 911...the dumbasses probably thought they were Muslims or middle easterners...which would also be wrong

The organization currently investigating the shooter is the Southern Poverty Law Center, Montgomery Alabama. Spokespersons from that organization told reporters that the shooter was a &quot;frustrated neo-Nazi&quot; who led a racist white supremacist band.

The gunman was associated with the white-power music scene for more than a decade, playing in bands known as Definite Hate and End Apathy.

The guy was simply another nut case....he belonged to a hate group. Hate groups hate anybody different than themselves. If it wasn't the Sikhs, it could have been Jews or Muslims etc. I believe he knew exactly who he was targeting.
Me thinks you are taking for granted that this guy was mistaking Sikhs for Muslims, I say it did not matter to him.

Don't blame the teachers. If we don't pass the students, we get called on the carpet about it. The problem is symptomatic of society. The world has changed, but the government and the school system have not. Case in point; elementary/primary education was designed in the days of the one room school--no longer appropriate. We as teachers are expected to teach today's technology with yesterday's tools of learning and procedures. Government is the same; in the early days of government, a center of government was necessary, because it took weeks to get together. Nowadays there should be term limits on all branches of government, and committee meetings could be skyped. That way legislators could continue their ordinary professions, lobbying could be illegal, and corruption reduced.

Incidentally, I believe the problem is pandemic, not just an American one. The problems of corruption, ignorance, and greed seems to be world-wide, not just a North American phenomenon.
