Detroit cops are hunting for a woman who opened fire on a crowd leaving a moonlight river cruise early Monday, wounding seven people, authorities said.
Police believed the shooting stemmed from a family argument that broke out on the fourth floor of the Detroit Princess cruise ship at around 1 a.m., as it was docking after a midnight cruise party. The party was sponsored by a local hip hop radio station, according to reports.
"It looks like a group of people were getting in some kind of fight," Detroit Police Sgt. Alan Quinn told the Detroit Free Press. "When they got back to shore, a black female who was involved in the fight got into her car, drove back . . . and then she shot into the crowd of people who were getting off the boat."
One man was said to be in critical condition Monday, while the six others suffered minor wounds to their arms, legs and feet, the newspaper reported.
Cops said the woman sped away after the shooting, and they didn't have a description of her or her car.
According to the Detroit Princess' website, the Hot 107.5 "On Deck Sunday" Moonlight Cruise featured DJs, a cash bar and "nightclub type atmosphere" during a tour of the Detroit River that went from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The former gambling boat holds 1,500 passengers. Several hundred people were aboard on Sunday night, reports said.
