in this part of the world it's travellers who want somewhere inexpensive to stay. Hosts will usually show them around the area as well. People offer up their couches etc. Some people prefer this route because they get to meet people.
of course it could mean something else in other parts of the world.
Airbnb is a site that offers this.

I met a White Jamaican guy who met his wife through Internet dating. His wife, poor thing was struggling to walk down a long, hot corridor with 2 canes. I was upset they had not provided for her and demanded to see the event organizer. He thanked me for advocating on behalf of his wife
I did not think it was cool the way his wife was treated and I totally freaked out and made a ton of noise about it. . I said to the husband "Excuse me, it's my Jamaican blood boiling up". 
He said "Oh me too"...and he switched to patois. He used to go to Wolmers.
The wife is American (White) and they met on a Christian dating site. On the way in, after the poor woman struggled up the stairs, a Jamaican guy was leaving who knew the husband and it was patois all the way. (I should have asked if they had any eligible sons for me.)Comment
